Summary

Architecture recovery. --mode tmux returns to its zsh-backed, production-stable form. The Node leader is now scoped to --mode agent (alpha) for LLM-driven orchestration only.

The Node port shipped without 11 zsh safety nets (heartbeat, copy-mode guard, prompt-stall timeout, no-progress detection, claude model upgrade chain, etc.). v0.13.0 / v0.13.1 patches addressed only a slice of the failure surface — production tmux campaigns remained uncontrollable. v0.14.0 reverses direction.

What's new

  • --mode tmux is stable again. node ~/.claude/ralph-desk/node/run.mjs run <slug> --mode tmux ... now spawns run_ralph_desk.zsh as a subprocess with stdio inherited. All 16 CLI flags (worker/verifier models, consensus, max-iter, iter-timeout, autonomous, lane-strict, etc.) map to the zsh runner's env vars.
  • --mode agent labeled alpha. The runner emits a stderr warning when invoked.
  • Missing-runner protection. If the zsh runner is not present, the Node router surfaces an actionable error and exits 1 — no silent hangs.
  • Install scripts updated. npm install rlp-desk now syncs the zsh trio (init_ralph_desk.zsh, run_ralph_desk.zsh, lib_ralph_desk.zsh) into ~/.claude/ralph-desk/ with banner protection. npm uninstall cleans them up.

Limitations

--flywheel, --flywheel-guard, and --with-self-verification are not honored under --mode tmux in this release — the zsh runner has no SV/flywheel implementation. The Node router emits a warning listing the dropped flags. Use --mode agent (alpha) if you need them.

Recommended migration

  • Production / autonomous campaigns: --mode tmux (no change to invocation form).
  • Quick interactive exploration inside Claude Code: --mode agent with the alpha caveat.

No migration required for .rlp-desk/ paths or sentinels — v0.13.0 contracts are preserved.
