Paper 1.0.3

Fixes the texture disappearing when you reveal the Dock or use Command-Tab. Paper now distinguishes those system surfaces from Mission Control, which still hides the texture during the overview and restores it afterward.

Regression coverage includes both real desktop interactions, repeated Mission Control entry/exit, fullscreen, display exclusions and floating panels. Existing settings and libraries are preserved.

Apple Silicon, macOS 13 or later. Local acceptance uses the current macOS 27 host; the remaining hardware and OS qualification limits are in the roadmap.

Paper 1.0.2

Fixes Paper covering or blacking out the Space previews at the top of Mission Control (F3). The texture now hides during the overview and returns promptly when you leave, including repeated entry and exit. Manual off, display exclusions and other pause rules still take priority.

Install with Check for Updates…, or open the DMG and drag Paper to Applications. Existing settings and imported papers are preserved.

The app targets macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon. This fix was exercised on an M1 Max running macOS 27; broader hardware and OS qualification remains listed in the roadmap. See the validation record for the scope of testing.

Paper 1.0.1

This maintenance release adopts Dust Wave Platform's shared Apple support core. Report review, explicit submission and update consent retain their existing behavior. Product media and processing behavior are unchanged.

See the migration record for dependency and rollback details.

Paper 1.0

Paper is a free, open-source texture overlay for Apple Silicon Macs, with 26 Deckle papers and Soft Wove as the default. This release brings the new reading and workspace features together with Platform desktop 0.2.0, used by the existing signed updater and reviewed diagnostic reporting.

  • Apply saved looks automatically for an app, macOS appearance or sunrise/sunset.
  • Recall a desk profile when its display setup reconnects; remember intensity per texture.
  • Use a clear reading strip and optional static warm Desk Lamp.
  • Pause for presentations, choose favorites and snooze from the menu. Settings holds configuration, assignments and shortcut bindings.
  • Customize global shortcuts, pause at a chosen battery percentage, and safely reopen one running instance across app copies.

Manual off and display exclusions always win. Presentation pause persists until ended; paused overlays are removed. Existing settings, recipes and saved looks are preserved, and optional new effects start off.

Open the DMG and drag Paper to Applications, or use Check for Updates… in an updater-enabled version. Quit a pre-1.0 copy before installing manually. Versions through 0.3.0 need a manual install.

The app targets macOS 13+ and arm64. Testing used an M1 Max on macOS 27; other OS/hardware combinations, login startup, Stage Manager, audible VoiceOver and whole-device battery discharge remain documented qualification work. Pause before sharing, capturing or using protected authorization UI; Paper does not promise capture invisibility. See the validation record.

Release validation: 91 Paper tests, seven Platform desktop tests, native workflow/display/fullscreen checks and the exact-source main CI passed. The app and DMG are Developer ID signed, notarized and stapled. Mounted installer, corresponding-source build, checksums and signed Sparkle feed/archive checks passed. Physical qualification limits remain as described above.

All five public assets were downloaded and matched against the validated files. The latest signed feed and archive verify. A public 0.4.2 installation successfully updated and relaunched as 1.0.0 (10); its executable matches the published archive and the app reports it is current. The user’s pre-test product preferences were restored.

Paper 0.4.2

Paper now uses Platform desktop 0.2.0 for shared Sparkle updates and reviewed
diagnostic transport. Existing update consent, report review, retry handling,
rendering and saved-setting behavior remain app-owned.

Post-merge CI, Developer ID signing, app/DMG notarization and stapling, Gatekeeper,
mounted installer checks and a fresh build from the source ZIP passed. Public
downloads match SHA256SUMS; the signed latest feed and update archive verify.
A disposable public 0.4.1 installation was replaced by 0.4.2 (9); its executable
matches the released archive, and the running app reports that it is up to date.

The separate, uncommitted 0.5.0 development features are not part of this release.

Paper 0.4.1

Settings is simpler: the main on/off toggle handles comparison, and Snooze stays in the menu bar.

Help & diagnostics now places Refresh, Import crash log, Save report and Send in a single aligned footer. The privacy description and status messages wrap so their full text stays readable.

This update retains the signed updater and reviewed GitHub reporting introduced in 0.4.0. Matching reports aggregate in one issue; reports are sent only after you review them and choose Send. Existing appearance, rules and library are preserved.

Targets Apple Silicon and macOS 13+. Physical acceptance has focused on the built-in XDR display of an M1 Max running macOS 27; other hardware and older macOS versions remain to be qualified.

Paper 0.4.0

Paper adds signed updates and reviewed support reports to its local texture overlay. Update checks can run automatically; installation remains your choice. Help & diagnostics can save a filtered report or send it to this repository, where matching reports are grouped. It also accepts a Paper crash log and removes private fields before showing the preview.

All 26 textures, saved looks, Shortcuts, schedules, battery rules, display/app exclusions and library backups remain available. Your existing appearance and rules are preserved. Versions through 0.3.0 require this first update to be installed manually.

Targets Apple Silicon and macOS 13+. Hardware/OS acceptance is documented separately; development and physical testing have focused on an M1 Max running macOS 27. Review the privacy and support documentation before sending a public report.
