[2.1.1] - 2026-10-09

Third LocalFlow macOS beta. Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26
or later. Uses the same app identity and local data locations as 2.1.0.

Added

  • Optional Hold to Prompt shortcut that prefixes dictation with an editable
    tag (default [dictated]) for use with AI agents. Disabled by default;
    voice macros are never tagged.
  • Speaking pace in Settings: average and latest words per minute, total
words, and dictation count, with a reset action. Statistics retain word
and time totals rather than transcript text.

Improved

  • Dictation becomes ready after the 15-second model function prepares;
the remaining functions optimize in the background while dictation stays
    available.
  • A refreshed model bundle supports 30-second transcription chunks once
optimization completes. Until then, recordings use 15-second chunks.

Fixed

  • In-app updates verify the downloaded app's code signature, developer team,
and app identity before installation. Ad hoc and unsigned builds must use
    a manual download.
  • Failed update downloads or installations now show an alert.

Download and installation

Download LocalFlow-Dev.dmg.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 26 or later. Open the DMG and drag
LocalFlow Dev.app to Applications. Quit any running copy before replacing it.
Upgrading from 2.1.0 keeps the same app identity, settings, permissions and
local history. Testers upgrading from 2.0.0 must grant Microphone and
Accessibility again because the app identity changed in 2.1.0.

This macOS beta uses the application code at df1692eab83579a9bf732f3d90bc38f0fd8f37f1
(current main at preparation time), with 2.1.1 release metadata. Linux code
is not built or packaged. The bundled model is the verified 4/8/15/30-second
conversion of the same pinned Parakeet export used in 2.1.0.

The release tag is 2.1.1 (without a v prefix), matching the previous
LocalFlow betas. It does not trigger the tag-based GitHub release workflow.

Validation: make check, git diff --check, release preflight, optimized
arm64 build, model hash verification, strict app/DMG signatures, Apple
notarization acceptance, stapled-ticket validation, and Gatekeeper assessment
of both the DMG and the read-only packaged app. The packaged app is
byte-identical to the signed build. The packaged-model synthetic smoke passed: all 314 dictations during
optimization matched, and optimized 18/33-second fixtures used b30 and
b30+b4 respectively. Initial readiness took 138 seconds and all functions
were ready by 505 seconds in this one run on the shared Mac; this is a smoke
check, not a cold-cache or accuracy benchmark.

The app and DMG are Developer ID-signed with secure timestamps. The DMG's
Apple notarization ticket is stapled. Download size is approximately 234 MB.

A checksum file accompanies the DMG.
Live dictation, shortcut/paste behavior, the packaged installation and in-app
update to this beta have not been tested as part of this release preparation.

[2.1.0] - 2026-10-06

Second LocalFlow beta. Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later.

Upgrading from 2.0.0: the 2.0.0 beta still used FreeFlow's development
identifier (com.zachlatta.freeflow.dev). This beta uses LocalFlow's own
(com.ajbarryiii.localflow.dev), so macOS treats it as a new app. Grant
Microphone and Accessibility again, re-enable Launch at Login if you use it,
and re-create any voice macros. Preferences and history from 2.0.0 are left
untouched in the old FreeFlow Dev location; they are not shared with or
deleted by this version.

Added

  • Spoken quotes, brackets, and code marks. Say "quote … end quote",
"paren … close paren", "open bracket … close bracket", "open brace … close
brace", "backtick … end backtick", or "double asterisk … close double
    asterisk" to insert "…", (…), […], {…}, `…`, or **…**. Only
matched pairs convert; a lone "quote" or "the paren" stays as spoken.
  • Spoken capitalization. "all caps on … all caps off" uppercases the words in
between and "all lowercase … end lowercase" lowercases them. Starting a
dictation with "all caps" or "all lowercase", without a closing command,
    changes the whole dictation.
  • A setting to turn these spoken commands off, under Settings → Clipboard. It
    is on by default.

Changed

  • LocalFlow uses its own bundle identifiers and stores its data under
Application Support/LocalFlow (Application Support/LocalFlow Dev for this
beta), so it never shares preferences, permissions, or history with an
    installed copy of FreeFlow.
  • Rebuilding the app no longer forces the several-minute model preparation
when the model itself has not changed.

Download and installation

Download LocalFlow-Dev.dmg (204.4 MB).

  1. Open the DMG and drag LocalFlow Dev.app to Applications.
  2. Open the app and allow Microphone and Accessibility access. On macOS 27,
Accessibility is named Device Control and Data Access. Screen Recording
is not required. Testers upgrading from 2.0.0 must grant both again because
    the bundle identifier changed.
  3. Wait for the model to become ready before dictating. First-time preparation
    can take several minutes.

The app and DMG are signed with the maintainer's own Developer ID and Apple
secure timestamps. Apple accepted the notarization submission; the ticket is
stapled to the DMG. Gatekeeper accepts both the DMG and the packaged app as
Notarized Developer ID.

This prerelease is built locally from main at fa4f75d (the merge of PR #5).
The release tag is 2.1.0 (without a v prefix), so the tag-triggered release
workflow does not run, and no GitHub signing secrets are used.

Validation: make check and git diff --check on main, a clean optimized
arm64 build, strict app and DMG signature verification, Apple notarization
acceptance, stapled-ticket validation, and Gatekeeper assessment of the DMG and
of the app on the read-only mounted DMG, which is byte-identical to the build.
Spoken quotes, brackets, code marks, case commands, the settings toggle, press
enter, and model reuse across rebuilds were tested by hand in a local build of
the same changes. The packaged installation and the fresh-identity permission
flow still need beta testing.

[2.0.0] - 2026-10-04

This is the first LocalFlow beta. Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS
26 or later. The beta is signed with the maintainer's Developer ID and notarized
by Apple for distribution outside the Mac App Store.

Added

  • Bundled LocalFlow English speech recognition, derived from NVIDIA Parakeet
v2, with no API key, provider account, or model download required.
  • Model preparation at startup and reuse throughout the session. First-time
preparation can take several minutes; Settings shows progress and offers a
    retry if preparation fails.
  • LocalFlow app and menu-bar icons, with attribution to FreeFlow and the model's
original authors included in the application.

Changed

  • Speech recognition runs entirely on the Mac. Cloud transcription, LLM
cleanup, translation, Edit Mode, and screenshot/app context capture have
    been removed.
  • Microphone and Accessibility are the only dictation permissions. Setup
guidance reflects macOS 27's Device Control and Data Access permission pane.
  • Hold to Talk, Tap to Toggle, Paste Again, deterministic voice macros, and
local history/retry remain available. Existing preferences and local history
    keep their compatible storage locations.
  • Update checks use the LocalFlow fork's releases. The updater may contact
GitHub; audio and transcripts remain local.

Beta limitations

  • English dictation only; Intel Macs and macOS versions earlier than 26 are
not supported by this model bundle.
  • Dictations longer than 15 seconds use independent chunks and can lose
context at chunk boundaries. There is no LLM cleanup or cloud fallback.
  • Live microphone dictation and paste worked in the preceding local build;
the packaged beta still needs tester verification of shortcuts, permissions,
    and installation on other Macs.

Download and installation

Download LocalFlow-Dev.dmg (205.4 MB).

  1. Open the DMG and drag LocalFlow Dev.app to Applications.
  2. Open the app and allow Microphone and Accessibility access. On macOS 27,
Accessibility is named Device Control and Data Access. Screen Recording
is not required. Existing local testers may need to refresh their approval
because the app now uses Developer ID signing.

A normal first-open confirmation and microphone/
Accessibility approval may still appear. No original FreeFlow signing
certificate, Apple account, or release credentials were used.

The LocalFlow Dev name and development bundle identifier are retained for
beta testing and compatibility with the existing local test build. Existing
preferences/history retain their compatible storage locations. The beta name
and development badge do not mean the package is unsigned or unnotarized.

Only Apple Silicon and macOS 26 or later are supported. All inference assets,
application and model licenses, and FreeFlow attribution are included. No model
download, cloud transcription, or LLM cleanup is used. The app can contact
GitHub for manual update checks; dictation stays on the Mac.

This prerelease is built locally from the release-preparation commit on
feat/localflow-name. It does not require merging the draft PR. The release tag
is 2.0.0 (without a v prefix), so the inherited FreeFlow tag workflow is not
triggered. No production/dev release workflow, original creator's credentials,
or GitHub signing secrets are used for this local release.

Validation: full optimized arm64 build, make check, git diff --check, strict
app/DMG signature verification, Apple notarization acceptance, stapled-ticket
validation, read-only mounting and packaged-file comparison, and all model
asset SHA-256 checks. The packaged app and DMG both pass Gatekeeper assessment.
Live dictation and paste were confirmed by the user in the preceding local
build. Packaged installation, permission approval, shortcuts, and operation
on another Mac still need beta testing.
