@ajisrawi ajisrawi released this 14 Oct 08:46

A Windows build of DigUp by ARahim3: search the files on your PC by what's in them (pictures, PDFs, documents, audio, video) with Google DeepMind's EmbeddingGemma 2, entirely on your computer.

All credit for the app and its search engine goes to the original author. This release packages the Windows port that's in the repo (the Swift helper and the Tauri tray app) as an installer. Build steps are in scripts/build-windows.ps1.

Install

  1. Download DigUp_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe below and run it. It installs for your user account only, no admin needed. If you have an earlier copy, quit it from the tray first.
  2. Windows SmartScreen will warn because the installer isn't code-signed: click More info → Run anyway.
  3. On first launch, pick the folders to search. The model (865 MB) downloads once; after that DigUp works offline.
  4. Press Ctrl+Shift+Space anywhere to search. DigUp lives in the system tray, and the top line of its tray menu shows indexing progress.

Requires Windows 10 or 11, x64.

What's in this build

  • Audio and video: recordings are searched by what's said, and videos by what's on screen, as on the Mac. FFmpeg 8.1 (LGPL) is included, so HEIC, WebP, TIFF and AVIF pictures work too. Nothing else to install.
  • Start with Windows: a checkbox on the last setup page, and a check item in the tray menu.
  • Big folders work: the indexer no longer crashes on a whole user folder (it used to, about an hour in, before saving anything). The folder walk now takes seconds.
  • AppData is skipped (programs' settings and caches), and a folder inside another chosen folder is read once, not twice.

Known issues (why this is a preview)

  • CPU only. There's no GPU acceleration in this build, so the first pass is slower than on a Mac.
  • Unsigned installer, as above.
  • No automatic updates or settings window yet. Change folders from the tray menu: Choose Folders…
  • Uninstalling keeps the model and index in %LOCALAPPDATA%\DigUp. Delete that folder to remove everything.
