Argentum 26.41.12 — Restore, and a Sharpen of its own for every mask

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 11 Oct 13:45
fb125f8

Added

  • Restore, in the ✨ window: makes a lens that is soft wide open look closer to its sharpest, at the photo's own size. A Mask slider and an eye show where it works, live as you move it; a soft background is left alone. Capture sharpening still works on the restored photo, and stays adjustable. The model (OmniLens, 54 MB) downloads the first time you use it.

Changed

  • Super Resolution is now Restore & Enlarge: Restore, an enlargement, or both, saved as one file named for what was done (_Restored, _Upscaled_x2, _Restored_Upscaled_x4).
  • Enlarging a RAW applies its capture sharpening first, at the camera's size, so enlargements are crisper.
  • Each mask's Sharpen has its own Radius, Mask and Threshold, under More, with an eye that shows where it sharpens. Two masks can now be sharpened differently from each other and from the rest of the photo.
  • The Sharpening switch in Details turns off the whole photo's sharpening only; masks keep their own.

Full details are in CHANGELOG.md.

Argentum 26.41.11 — new sharpening, and lenses found on every format

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 10 Oct 17:32
5f0c6e8

Added

  • New sharpening, in Details. Capture sharpening for RAW photos, from RawTherapee, undoes the slight blur of the lens and sensor. A manual Sharpen, from darktable, works on any photo.
  • See what gets sharpened: an eye next to each one shows its mask, white where it works and black where it leaves the photo alone. One switch turns all sharpening off, to compare before and after.
  • Masks have their own Sharpen slider. Drag it below zero to soften instead.
  • Judge sharpening at 100%: at fit-to-screen, capture sharpening is too fine to show.

Changed

  • RapidRAW's Base Pre-Sharpening is set to 0 once, since capture sharpening replaces it. Turn it back up and it stays.

Fixed

  • Lens correction finds your lens on CR3 and every other format, not only CR2, and adds it to My Lenses. Photos that said "Lens profile not found" pick it up when you open them.

Argentum 26.41.10 — lighter AI memory, and enlargements that match the raw

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 09 Oct 21:14
58261ce

Fixed

  • Far less memory with AI masks and the AI eraser: about 3-4 GB while the AI models are loaded, where it used to sit at 8-12 GB. Models unload by themselves when you stop using them: a minute for the eraser, five for masks. The first AI mask after a break takes a few seconds longer while its models load again.
  • An enlarged raw opens looking like the raw: the same white balance and tone. It used to come out bluer, with heavier greens.
  • Enlarging keeps your inpainting and your masks, moved onto the enlarged photo. Shapes stay editable; colour and luminance masks may need a small tolerance tweak.

Full details are in CHANGELOG.md.

Argentum 26.41.9 — masks that make sense, and a RAW section

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 09 Oct 12:36
d7dc3cc

Changed

  • The linear mask is two lines: a solid one where the effect is full and a dashed one where it has gone, marked 100% and 0%. Draw it like a graduated filter: press where the effect should be full and let go where it should be gone. Drag a line to make the edge harder or softer. In the Masks and AI panels.
  • The radial mask shows where its full effect ends: a second ellipse inside the outer one, which follows the Feather slider and moves with the outer ellipse as you drag it.
  • Linear and radial masks fade smoothly, with no visible edge where the fade starts or stops. Masks you have already drawn look slightly softer.
  • A RAW section at the top of the Color panel: camera profile, RAW rendering and highlight recovery together, folding like White Balance.

Fixed

  • The camera profile is always a dropdown: Built-in, your profiles, and Find one…, which selects what it finds.
  • Profile and Rendering sit on one line with their dropdowns.

Argentum 26.41.8 — white balance presets

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 09 Oct 09:17
b774120

Added

  • White balance presets, as in Lightroom: As Shot, Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Shade, Tungsten, Fluorescent and Flash, from the new Preset row at the top of White Balance. Each shows its kelvin, and moving a slider shows Custom.

Changed

  • Auto white balance lives in that menu now, instead of the wand button. It works exactly as before.

Argentum 26.41.7 — compact panels, and the Subject mask is called Object

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 09 Oct 06:54
141a567

Added

  • Compact panels, in Settings > General: sliders on one line with a thin bar, and a smaller tone curve, as Lightroom lays them out, so nearly three times as much of a panel fits on screen. Row spacing sets how much room each slider gets. Off until you turn it on.

Changed

  • The Subject mask is now called Object, Lightroom's name for it: you still draw a box round the thing you want. Masks you already made are unchanged.

Argentum 26.41.6 — built on RapidRAW 1.6.5, without RapidRAW Cloud

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 08 Oct 08:28
7375090

Changed

  • Now built on RapidRAW 1.6.5: white balance in Kelvin, pick and reject flags, borders and padding on export, panels you can reorder and fold, finer curves, AI-Free mode, and Czech and Dutch.
  • White balance is RapidRAW's own now, and the Auto button still works on top of it. Photos you already balanced keep their colour, and get back highlights the old white balance was cutting off.
  • Shadows, Highlights, Whites, Clarity and Dehaze were rebuilt in RapidRAW, so photos that use them can look a little different.
  • AI models moved to Settings > General, under Generative AI.

Removed

  • RapidRAW Cloud. Argentum no longer contacts RapidRAW's sign-in service when it starts, and the Cloud option is gone.

Known issues

  • Canon EOS-1D and 1Ds: the Kelvin number shown for white balance is off. The picture and the corrections are right.

Argentum 26.41.5 — the Subject mask replaces the Object brush

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 07 Oct 08:19
e3cd3db

Removed

  • Object mask. The Subject mask, where you draw a box round the thing, selects it better: on the first real test, a box round an eye took the eye, while painting along an eye also took the lids and part of the brow. Masks you already made with it keep working. To leave part of a selection out, add a second Subject set to subtract.
  • Its edge model (about 100 MB) is deleted from your computer the next time Argentum starts.

Changed

  • AI models moved to Settings > Processing, as a tab beside Processing Engine.

Full details are in CHANGELOG.md.

Argentum 26.41.4 — paint to select an object, and an AI models page

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 06 Oct 10:26
c15e53f

Added

  • Object mask: a new tile in the masks panel, after Subject. Paint roughly over something and the mask snaps to its edges: an eye, a pair of glasses, a lamp, a person's hair. Paint more to add to it, or hold Alt and paint to leave part out. The first time, a model for drawing the edges is downloaded (about 100 MB).
  • Settings > About > AI models shows which AI models are on this computer, how much space each one takes, and lets you delete them. A deleted model downloads again the next time you use its feature.

Full details are in CHANGELOG.md.

Argentum 26.41.3 — enlargement on the GPU, framed photos only

Choose a tag to compare

@akhater akhater released this 05 Oct 21:49
42cadd5

Changed

  • Enlarging a photo uses the graphics card on Windows: about 18 times faster at 2x and 13 times at 4x, with the same result. The first time, a small download (18 MB) is needed. On Macs, on Linux, and on PCs without a usable graphics card, it runs on the CPU as before.
  • Enlarging works on the photo as you framed it, cropped and straightened, not the whole frame, so a tight crop finishes in a fraction of the time. The enlarged photo keeps your colour and tone edits.
  • Every enlargement also does about a fifth less work, with no visible difference.

Fixed

  • The Super Resolution window shows its before and after comparison.
