v2.26.0

New Features

  • auth: you stay signed in for 90 days on each device, renewed as you use the app, so the
desktop and mobile apps no longer sign you out after a few days
  • auth: a new Devices list in settings shows every device signed in to your account, with its
approximate location, and lets you sign any of them out remotely
  • auth: when the server can't be reached, the app shows a connecting screen and keeps retrying
instead of sending you to the login page
  • voice: "Smooth Video" is offered only on computers that have a hardware video encoder.
Elsewhere it is shown disabled with the reason, instead of failing on every share
  • guide: a new onboarding guide with eight steps you can do in any order — sending a DM, setting
up your profile, roles, getting the app. Steps tick off as you complete them, "Show me" points at
the real control, and the voice panel is introduced once you join voice
  • report: report a single channel or DM message, or a voice chat. The reported text is kept on
the server, and admins can delete the reported message from the reports panel
  • block: a blocked user's messages disappear at once, and the block confirmation offers to
    report them
  • call: switch between the front and back camera during a call on mobile
  • call: on iOS, voice and video calls run natively and integrate with CallKit
  • app: links to the App Store and Google Play in the app and the README
  • terms: the terms now include a zero-tolerance clause and describe the moderation tools that
    actually exist
  • admin: screen shares that fail or stop by themselves are recorded in the admin logs, with the
cause and how long the share lasted, and voice server events now flag presence mismatches

Bug Fixes

  • voice: streams from an HDR display no longer look overexposed to viewers. "Smooth Video" now
tone-maps the HDR picture. "Sharp Video" on an HDR display goes through mqvi's own capture, because
    the browser's clips HDR content
  • voice: muting someone just for yourself no longer lets about a second of their voice through
    when you or they rejoin
  • voice: closing the window you were sharing ends the share without an error. A real failure
names the mode that failed, and viewers see the correct mode label on each share
  • voice: iOS users in the background are no longer dropped from voice, and per-user volume and
server deafen now work in the iOS app
  • call: 1:1 calls are far more reliable. Calls survive reconnects and page reloads, simultaneous
calls no longer collide, and declining or muting from the lock screen works. Calls that never
connect are given up, and blocking someone ends the call. Camera switching and video orientation
    were also fixed
  • auth: changing your password keeps this device signed in and signs out the others, and
resetting it signs out everywhere. A device signed out remotely leaves at once and stops
    receiving notifications
  • auth: switching servers from the login page works again
  • desktop: when "Remember me" cannot save your credentials, you are told instead of the failure
    being hidden
  • dm: blocks now also cover edits, reactions, pins, typing and starting new conversations, and
blocking someone back can no longer undo their block
  • unread: messages from blocked users no longer count as unread
  • report: the report limit is a real five per ten minutes, and message reports respect channel
    access
  • mobile: hold-to-record is reliable on iOS. The keyboard no longer covers the chat, modals or
the GIF and emoji pickers. Sign-in pages scroll, and pinch-zoom is locked inside the app
  • guide: the guide only points at channels you can use, starts tours from a closed drawer on
mobile, keeps its caption on screen and no longer appears for existing accounts
  • friends: a refused friend request now explains why in a friendly, translated message
  • settings: the unsaved-changes bar stays at the top of the settings pane, and account deletion
is described as permanent with a 30-day cancellation window
  • admin: the users list shows full user IDs with click-to-copy
  • ui: the verified badge sits next to the server name, and confirmation dialogs open above the
    profile card
  • push: the app keeps registering for notifications until the server has the device

Other Changes

  • deploy: self-hosted servers behind Caddy and Cloudflare now get the real client IP, which the
Devices list uses for location. See the deployment docs
  • deploy: update the server before the apps. This release adds database migrations for
per-device sessions and new client report fields
