First public release of ShapeShell, an unofficial Linux desktop app for Onshape with 6-DOF SpaceMouse support built in.

Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Onshape, PTC, 3Dconnexion, or Logitech. All trademarks belong to their respective owners. You need your own Onshape account.

Install

Download ShapeShell-0.1.0-x86_64.flatpak below, then:

flatpak install --user --bundle ShapeShell-0.1.0-x86_64.flatpak

Launch ShapeShell from your app menu. Don't run the .flatpak file directly; it's an installer package, and running it fails with "permission denied".

NVIDIA users: for hardware WebGL, Flatpak needs the GL extension matching your exact driver version (e.g. org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.nvidia-595-84). flatpak update normally installs it.

SpaceMouse users: needs spacenavd running. See the README for calibration.

What's in it

  • Onshape in its own window, with a slim toolbar, a hamburger menu, and native GNOME window buttons
  • Hardware-accelerated WebGL. Onshape's own compatibility check passes every row
  • SpaceMouse navigation via a bundled bridge. No manual process, no certificate import, no Tampermonkey
  • Chromium's sandbox stays on, with no access to your home folder
  • Window size and position are remembered

Known behavior

  • You sign in on each launch. Onshape's session cookies aren't persisted by design.
  • An aging SpaceMouse can drop off USB mid-motion and leave the model orbiting. Click away from the window to stop it, then replug the device.

Tested on

Ubuntu 26.04, GNOME 50 (Wayland), NVIDIA GTX 1660. Other distros, desktops, and GPUs are untested so far. Reports are very welcome in Issues.
