agent-seat 0.9.3 · Installer completion fix

Choose a tag to compare

@aksmfosef11 aksmfosef11 released this 12 Oct 05:15

Give your AI a dedicated Windows desktop while you keep using yours.

0.9.3 fixes guided setup reporting failure after a successful installation. Windows PowerShell 5.1 sends a JSON array from Invoke-RestMethod down the pipeline as one object, so the installer never recognized the live seat session. Every setup ended with "No live seat session after 90 seconds" and an incomplete installation record, even though the seat was already running. The same pattern made repair fail with "Duplicate seat identity" when more than one seat was registered, and the readiness check reported a finished seat as needing repair on every run. Install.ps1 also no longer accepts resolutions below the 800×600 minimum the seat service enforces; that failure used to happen after the Windows account had been created.

If an earlier setup ended with "No live seat session after 90 seconds", run setup again with the same seat ID and account name. Saved account and password are preserved and setup completes. This release has no service/CLI updater, so an existing installation keeps its 0.9.2 binaries.

Also new: an AI installation guide for letting an AI install agent-seat. An AI can neither see nor click the Windows UAC prompt, so the guide has it check for administrator rights, ask you to open an administrator terminal or approve UAC, and wait for your explicit consent to the unsupported TermWrap change. agent-seat add --agent now points to the installer that exists.

Double-click setup

Download Install-AgentSeat.cmd below and double-click it. It downloads the executable ZIP, verifies its checksum and GitHub digest, validates archive paths and the extracted manifest, then starts guided setup. The launcher inside the full ZIP also works offline.

One PowerShell command

Run in 64-bit Windows PowerShell under the interactive installing owner:

& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm 'https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aksmfosef11/agent-seat/v0.9.3/Get-AgentSeat.ps1')))

Review the plan, type INSTALL to accept the unsupported TermWrap modification, and approve UAC using the same owner account. Messages support English, Korean and Simplified Chinese. The viewer opens read-only. Add -DownloadOnly to download and verify without installation; add -Plan -NoOpen to inspect installation without host changes.

After reboot, the service starts automatically. Log in as the installing owner, then run computer start --seat agent or click Start session in the viewer. Windows auto-login and automatic AI-seat startup are not configured.

Validation and preview limits

  • 298 checks passed: 227 Core and 36 Windows managed tests, 12 web tests, 12 bootstrap groups and 11 recovery groups. The simulated Windows APIs in the installer tests now behave like Windows PowerShell 5.1, and the three new recovery groups fail against 0.9.2.
  • On a Windows 11 Pro development PC, guided setup of 0.9.2 reproduced the failure while the seat session was active. Setup was then completed with the fixed scripts: the session wait matched within seconds, the installation record became complete, and computer begin returned a 1280×800 image of the seat's own desktop. The existing TermWrap was reused without restarting Terminal Services.
  • Not yet validated: a fresh installation by this release's own package that creates the account and waits for its first session in one run, a disposable or clean Windows machine, reboot/re-login, other Windows builds and a second seat on real hardware. Simulated recovery tests do not establish TermWrap compatibility or first-login behavior.
  • Target: Windows 11 Pro/Enterprise/Education x64. The ZIP includes .NET 8.0.31. Home, ARM64 and Server/RDS automatic setup are unsupported. Scripts are not code-signed.
  • TermWrap modifies shared Windows RDP and can be affected by Windows updates. Separate sessions share the host and are not a security sandbox.
  • CLI and optional MCP are both supported. UI and user guides support English, Korean and Simplified Chinese.

agent-seat 0.9.2 · Resumable Windows setup

Choose a tag to compare

@aksmfosef11 aksmfosef11 released this 07 Oct 14:36

Superseded by v0.9.3. Version 0.9.3 fixes guided setup reporting "No live seat session after 90 seconds" after a successful installation, and repair when more than one seat is registered.

Give your AI a dedicated Windows desktop while you keep using yours.

0.9.2 makes setup resumable. Generated seat passwords no longer expire, incomplete seats are repaired rather than reported as installed, and both the registered seat and RDP anchor follow Windows' configured listener port. A protected journal records account ownership; encrypted credentials are saved before account creation. Recovery preserves account identity and passwords, refuses foreign/replaced/deleted accounts or tasks, and installs a versioned anchor without replacing existing service/CLI binaries.

& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm 'https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aksmfosef11/agent-seat/v0.9.2/Get-AgentSeat.ps1')))

For an interrupted installation, run setup again with the same owner, seat ID and account name. Saved credentials must still be available. Fully configured seats are reused; this release has no service/CLI updater.

After reboot, the service starts automatically. Log in as the installing owner, then run computer start --seat agent or click Start session in the viewer. Windows auto-login and automatic AI-seat startup are not configured.

Validation and preview limits

  • 263 managed tests, 12 web tests, 12 bootstrap groups and 8 recovery groups passed: 295 checks including grouped scenarios. Recovery tests simulate services/accounts/tasks/registry/API while using real artifact filesystem, protected DACLs and DPAPI.
  • Published native anchor credentials were recovered using actual DPAPI in a protected fixture without creating an account or connecting to RDP.
  • No disposable Windows test environment was available. Actual fresh-machine installation, UAC/apply, reboot/re-login and compatibility across Windows builds remain unvalidated. Simulated reboot state checks do not establish real reboot success.
UI and user guides support English, Korean and Simplified Chinese.

agent-seat 0.9.1 · PowerShell installer fix

Choose a tag to compare

@aksmfosef11 aksmfosef11 released this 07 Oct 13:12

Superseded by v0.9.2. Version 0.9.2 fixes seat account password expiration, interrupted setup recovery and custom Windows RDP ports. Use its installer for new installations or repair. Existing service/CLI binaries are preserved during repair. The original 0.9.1 assets are retained unchanged.

Give your AI a dedicated Windows desktop while you keep using yours.

This patch fixes the Windows PowerShell 5.1 text-decoding failure in the 0.9.0 remote installer. The bootstrap now keeps translated messages in Unicode-escaped JSON and can be evaluated directly from GitHub without a BOM parsing error. The executable package includes the service, CLI, RDP anchor, input helper and .NET runtime.

Double-click setup

Download Install-AgentSeat.cmd from the assets below and double-click it. It downloads the executable ZIP, validates its SHA-256 checksum and GitHub asset digest, checks archive paths, verifies the extracted manifest and starts guided setup. The same launcher inside the full ZIP works offline after extraction.

One PowerShell command

Run in 64-bit Windows PowerShell under the interactive installing owner:

& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm 'https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aksmfosef11/agent-seat/v0.9.1/Get-AgentSeat.ps1')))

Review the plan, type INSTALL to accept the unsupported TermWrap Windows client modification, then approve UAC using the same owner account. Setup opens the seat's viewer read-only. Messages follow English, Korean or Simplified Chinese Windows UI languages. Original backend diagnostics remain in English.

Add -DownloadOnly to download and verify without installation or administrator prompts. Downloaded files are retained under the owner's LocalAppData. Setup-Seat.ps1 -Plan inspects an extracted package without host changes. Existing seats are reopened without resetting accounts or changing installed binaries; this preview does not provide an in-place updater.

Validation and preview limits

  • 286 managed, web and installer checks passed, including Windows PowerShell 5.1 HTTP parsing with Korean, English and Chinese translations, corrupt downloads, release origins, unsafe ZIP paths, manifests, literal elevation arguments, cancellation and existing-seat reuse.
  • Installer target: Windows 11 Pro/Enterprise/Education x64. Windows Home, ARM64 and Server/RDS automatic installation are unsupported. Scripts are not code-signed; review their source and origin before running.
  • UAC prompts remain user-controlled. A fresh-machine guided installation, restart/re-login, installation across Windows builds and full live input/IME coverage remain unvalidated. See the included validation and recovery guides.
  • TermWrap is an unsupported shared Windows RDP modification and can be affected by Windows updates. Separate accounts and sessions share a host; they are not a VM or security sandbox.
  • CLI and optional MCP are both available. The dashboard/viewer and project/install/agent guides support English, Korean and Simplified Chinese.

agent-seat 0.9.0 · One-command setup

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@aksmfosef11 aksmfosef11 released this 07 Oct 12:55

Superseded by v0.9.1. The 0.9.0 one-command and standalone download paths fail in Windows PowerShell 5.1 because HTTP text decoding breaks the script header. Use the 0.9.1 installer. The original 0.9.0 assets are retained unchanged.

Give your AI a dedicated Windows desktop while you keep using yours.

This experimental preview adds double-click setup and a version-pinned one-command installer. The executable package includes the service, CLI, RDP anchor, input helper and .NET runtime. The public guides focus on the agent desktop and installation workflow.

Run in 64-bit Windows PowerShell under the interactive installing owner:

& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm 'https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aksmfosef11/agent-seat/v0.9.0/Get-AgentSeat.ps1')))

Choose a tag to compare

@aksmfosef11 aksmfosef11 released this 07 Oct 11:23

Give your AI a separate Windows desktop while you keep using yours.

This experimental preview adds English, Korean and Simplified Chinese to the dashboard and screen viewer. Your initial browser language is detected automatically; a manual choice is saved without reloading the page or clearing a text draft. Status, host checks, accessible labels and known errors are translated. Original diagnostics remain available.

The project now has three README editions, a new concept banner, a feature overview and matching installation/CLI/MCP guides. The executable ZIP includes those guides and the .NET runtime. CLI/API identifiers and machine messages retain compatibility. MCP remains optional. Sunshine, Moonlight and gaming components are excluded; agent-seat uses a separate service, account and data directory from SeatStream.

Download and install

Download agent-seat-0.8.0-win-x64.zip and SHA256SUMS.txt, compare the ZIP hash, then extract it. The automatic source archives do not contain built applications.

Use 64-bit Windows PowerShell as Administrator under the interactive installing owner's account:

.\Install.ps1
.\Install.ps1 -Apply -IAcceptUnsupportedWindowsClientPatch

Double-click View-Seat.cmd to open the desktop read-only. Stop the AI before enabling manual control.

Preview limits and validation

  • Installer target: Windows 11 Pro/Enterprise/Education x64. Home, ARM64 and Server/RDS automatic installation are unsupported.
  • The unsupported TermWrap change enables concurrent Windows client sessions and can be affected by Windows updates. Accounts and sessions share one host; this is not a VM or security sandbox.
  • 275 managed/web tests passed. Chrome checks covered all three languages, saved preference, a preserved viewer/text draft and a 420px layout. The published 0.8.0 CLI passed MCP and viewer authentication integration checks against the separately installed live service.
  • Fresh-machine installation across Windows builds, restart/re-login and full live input/IME coverage remain unvalidated. Read the included docs/VALIDATION.md and installation/recovery guide.
  • This preview has no in-place updater. Running the installer to add a seat to an existing service retains that service's binaries. Review backups and the service/anchor configuration before replacing an earlier installation.
