Agenda/Minutes

SSI Research Software Maintenance Fund Reviews

  • Overwhelmingly positive,
  • Scoring is mostly above average,
  • Rebuttals open from today until next Tuesday 30th June,
  • DW to coordinate and submit rebuttal with input from co-applicants,
  • ACC suggests considering uploading proposal to Zenodo, DW in favour.

Zenodo Community

  • ACC recommends creating a new Zenodo community to collect together archival outputs relating to deepsensor,
  • DW spontanteously created one at https://zenodo.org/communities/deepsensor/ with DW and ACC added as owners to begin with.

Recent Issues raised on GitHub

  • Two recent issues raised by Great Lakes team on Github,
  • Keen to fix but might need MWE and example data,
  • DW to respond and coordinate, MR to run MWE if made available.

Use of DeepSensor on ARIA Tipping Points programme

  • ACC: folks at Turing working on GIANT ARIA tipping points are working with DeepSensor and keen to contribute

Multi-GPU Support

Next meeting

First meeting!

Attendees

  • David Wyld, BAS (DW)
  • Alejandro Coca-Castro, Turing (ACC)
  • Martin Rogers, BAS (MR)

Agenda/Minutes

Funding

  • Expression of interest to Software Sustainability Institute Research Software Maintenance Fund Round 2 submitted, scores and reviews are back, relatively positive. DW has submitted a rebuttal to the negative comments.

Code /Repo Maintenance

  • security/permissions review
    • DW to review who still has admin access to repo,
  • Branch protections
    • Currently main branch is not protected
    • DW to add some basic branch protections:
  • Release to pypi
    • Tom Andersson still has the PyPI credentials, not shared with anyone else as far as we know
    • DW to chase up Tom re: sharing access to DeepSensor project on PyPI
    • DW to try releasing through GitHub, should release to PyPI through the GitHub action.

Community

  • Committee positions
    • Should we add others to steering committee?
    • Yes in future, for beginning keep small.
  • Community on slack
    • Some concern that the MFA requirement and timed log out on the Turing slack channel could be limiting the ability of the community to communicate, i.e. it puts people off and they don't get round to logging in again.
    • Reluctance to move the community, but committee will keep this under review.
    • Aim to send out an email and start a mailing list (see below) to remind people to log back in.
  • Channel managers on slack
    • Only community managers are Tom Andersson and Scott Hosking.
    • ACC has added MR as a channel manager. DW can't be as isn't Turing-affiliated.
  • Mailing list
    • Committee to start a mailing list.
    • DW to look into platform to use.
    • MR and ACC to gather list of recipients for announcement.

Science

  • PhD student at Turing looking into Transformer NPs
    • ACC to arrange for presentation.
  • Broad discussion around whether the structure of DeepSensor at present limits it to NPs only going forwards.

Next meeting

  • DW to schedule for June
  • Next meeting agenda:
    • Review actions from April meeting
