v0.1.0: races at 13-16 fps (closed experiment)

Choose a tag to compare

@alechurri alechurri released this 07 Oct 15:47

Closed experiment (stopped for lack of time), published so anyone can continue it. The Eden Switch emulator running natively on a jailbroken PS4 Pro (firmware 12.02, GoldHEN).

This is the last build that reliably reached races (internally "test 24"):

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: menus at 40-60 fps; races load and play at 13-16 fps, with stutters while shaders compile; sound is clean.
  • Colors are wrong: red and blue are swapped in the whole image (3D, videos and UI).
  • The emulated CPU is the bottleneck (the GPU is never waited on). Projected ceiling for MK8D races on this console: about 20-25 fps at best. See docs/STATUS.md.
  • Memory is tight (~4.5 of 4.6 GiB in a race): an occasional hang or crash while a race loads is possible.

Tested on one PS4 Pro (firmware 12.02, GoldHEN) with MK8D, Cuphead and the Homebrew Menu, in 29 console test builds; every test and its result is listed in docs/STATUS.md.

Files

  • nx-on-orbis-v0.1.0.pkg: install with GoldHEN. Shows up as "NX on Orbis" (EDPS00001).
  • nx-on-orbis-v0.1.0.elf: the exact ELF in the package, to symbolize eboot+0x... offsets in boot.log.

Setup and your own files (keys and firmware dumped from your own Switch, your games): docs/INSTALL.md. No keys, firmware or games are included.

Not affiliated with the Eden project, and built with heavy use of AI assistants. Please do not report anything about this port to Eden.

Copy every file to the console over FTP in binary mode (FileZilla: Transfer → Transfer type → Binary); other modes silently damage them.
