DarkInfo Protector v2.3.1 RC1
This release focuses on stability, reliability, and usability improvements identified during the v2.3 audit.
Fixed
✅ C2
Added protection against accidental overwriting of the original executable during protection.
✅ H2
Fixed password attempt lockout logic.
The lockout can no longer be bypassed through UI updates or file re-selection.
✅ H5
Improved UAC handling and WinError 740 processing.
Added proper elevation support and localized user notifications.
✅ H3
Removed the dummy stub fallback.
Protection now stops with an explicit error instead of generating a non-functional executable.
✅ M4
Fixed a password race condition between the GUI and the encryption worker thread.
✅ M6
The application now continues to operate when log files cannot be created.
✅ M8
Minimum password length increased from 4 to 8 characters.
✅ RC1 Version Update
Unified version information across the application, build system, dialogs, logs, and interface components.

• AES-256-GCM unchanged
• PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (600000 iterations) unchanged
• Sidecar architecture unchanged
• Container format v2 unchanged
• Backward compatibility with existing .enc files preserved
Audit Status
The following findings from the v2.3 audit have been addressed:

• M8 – Fixed
Additional review:
• H4 reviewed and analyzed
• No direct container key exposure identified
• No changes applied
Known Limitations
• Maximum supported file size remains 2 GB
• Streaming encryption is planned for a future release
• Temporary decrypted executable handling will be improved in a future version
• Some antivirus machine-learning engines may temporarily produce false-positive detections for newly built releases
Project Status
DarkInfo Protector v2.3.1 RC1 is considered a Release Candidate build intended for final validation before the v2.3.1 stable release.
