Louppe v.1.6.0

Louppe 1.6 makes sorting and grouping do real work for you, adds subfolders throughout filtering and sorting, speaks your Mac's own date and time format, and opens folders noticeably faster.

Sort that shapes the view

• The toolbar sort control is now a full popover matching the filter's look, with Sort by, Order, and a new Groups section.
• Grouping now follows whatever you sort by: sort by camera and the photos divide into camera groups, by subfolder into subfolder groups, and so on. Sorting by Name shows one continuous list.
• Every group divider carries its group's name — the date, camera, lens, or other label sits at the start of the line in both the Grid and the Browser column, with the divider continuing after it.
• A Divide into groups checkbox turns division off entirely when you'd rather see one flat run.

Subfolders everywhere

• The filter popover lists every subfolder of the opened folder — plus None for files lying directly in it — as checkboxes with live photo counts.
• The sort menu gains a Subfolder option, and subfolder names now match in the metadata search field too.

Dates in your format

• Every date and time shown in the app — the info panel, the selection summary, the filter's day list, and the group dividers — now follows your Mac's Language & Region settings, including the custom Date format picker and the 12- or 24-hour clock.

Smoother Gallery navigation

• In the Gallery, ↓ steps to the next photo and ↑ to the previous one, mirroring the top-to-bottom order of the Browser column. The Grid keeps its row-by-row ↑/↓ movement.
• The Browser toggle now appears in the toolbar only while the Gallery is showing — the Browser column exists only there.
• In the filter popover, Subfolders sits below File types and starts collapsed to keep the panel tidy.

Faster on big cards

• Opening a folder is much quicker: photo details (EXIF) are now read across several CPU cores at once instead of one file at a time — nearly 3× faster in benchmarks, with more expected on large cards.
• The Grid fills its thumbnails about twice as fast, and the big Gallery photo no longer waits in line behind thumbnail work.
• Removed hidden per-keystroke layout work in the always-visible scrollbars and a small grouping slowdown, keeping rating and navigation snappy in large sessions.

Louppe v1.5.0

Louppe 1.5 gives you more precise control over what you see and what you cull: richer metadata filtering and sorting, clearer batch Clean Up choices, a more useful selection summary, and smoother work in large folders.

Smarter filtering

• Filter by a capture-date range or choose individual calendar days, with an explicit option for photos whose date is unknown.
• Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO now support inclusive typed ranges. Shutter speed understands photographer-friendly values such as 1/1000 and 2s.
• Each folder supplies its own date and exposure limits automatically, so the initial filter state shows everything — including photos with missing metadata.
• File type, camera, lens, date, and exposure filters can be combined to narrow a shoot exactly as needed.

Sort by what matters

• Sort the visible photos by capture date, name, file type, camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, or ISO.
• Capture date remains the default, and photos with missing values stay together at the end in either direction.

Better batch culling

• Rating-based Clean Up actions can now work on All Photos, the current Filtered set, or Selected photos. The menu shows the live count for each scope.
• The Info panel becomes a complete selection summary when several photos are selected, including cameras, lenses, date span, file types, and combined file size.
• Clearing many ratings now asks for confirmation, while ⌘Z still restores the whole operation.

A smoother review workspace

• Browser and Grid scrollbars stay visible and have been refined to be less distracting.
• Grid scrolling is more responsive, especially in large folders.
• Disclosure behavior, toolbar organization, and thumbnail corner rounding have all been polished.

Clearer scanning and safer edge cases

• While scanning, Louppe shows the folder name, full path, and a localized running photo count.
• Use Cancel Scan in the toolbar or Esc to stop scanning, discard partial results, and return to the start screen.
• Filtering is safer when no photos match: hidden photos cannot be rated or accidentally included in selection-based Clean Up.

Louppe v1.4.0

Louppe 1.4 brings a faster, clearer review workspace: a redesigned Grid and Info panel, easier keyboard navigation, a tidier toolbar, and more responsive work with large folders.

Grid view

• The former Light Table is now the Grid view; the main photo view is now Gallery.
• Photos are grouped by day, each day starts on a fresh row, and filenames appear below the thumbnails.
• Use ↑ / ↓ to move to the photo above or below in the same Grid column. The Grid follows the current photo as you navigate.
• The Info panel can now stay open alongside the Grid (press W), and Grid tiles can be resized with ⌘+ / ⌘−.
• The Browser (formerly Filmstrip) keeps the current photo in view while you navigate.

Redesigned photo info

• A clearer filename header with a one-click rating control.
• Camera and lens are presented together, followed by a more legible exposure row.
• Focal length, exposure compensation, and white balance are surfaced prominently; unusually high ISO values are called out in red.

Toolbar and workflow

• The native Liquid Glass toolbar is regrouped around the review workflow: folder and Clean Up controls; filter, sort, and view controls; centered progress; then undo, browser/info, and export.
• The in-window re-scan button has been removed to reduce clutter. File → Rescan Folder and ⌘R remain available.
• Cleaner, more descriptive hover hints throughout.

Faster, safer large sessions

• Scanning, session-file reads/writes, thumbnail decoding, filtering, sorting, and prefetching have been tightened to keep large folders responsive.
• Clean Up and Undo now perform file work in the background with visible progress, while protecting the session so the whole batch can still be restored exactly with ⌘Z.
• Added focused regression checks for search, persistence order, and Trash/restore pairing.

Folder clean-up, multi-selection, and a one-click undo.

Clean Up

Tidy the source folder itself — move rejected photos to the macOS Trash (never a permanent delete, always undoable with ⌘Z). From the toolbar trash button or File → Clean Up:

• Move selected to Trash — the current selection (⌘⌫ does it instantly, no dialog)
• Move "No" to Trash — keeps "Yes" and unrated photos
• Keep only "Yes" — everything else goes
• A Limit to Filtered Photos toggle (shown when a filter is active) scopes the rating-based actions; the confirmation always says exactly what will move. RAW+JPEG pairs always move together.

Multi-selection

Select several photos in the browser or Light Table and rate them together:

• ⇧-click ranges, ⌘-click adds/removes, click-drag rubber-bands in the grid
• ⌘A selects all visible (respects the filter), ⌘⇧← / ⌘⇧→ extend to an edge, Esc clears
• F / D rate the whole selection at once, then advance — one ⌘Z reverts the batch

Toolbar

• New undo button (also plain Z)
• Rearranged and de-cluttered, with shorter hover hints

Originals are still only ever moved to the Trash, never hard-deleted — and every action here is reversible with ⌘Z.

New: filter your photos

A filter menu in the toolbar lets you narrow a large folder down to just the
shots you care about:

• Search across filename, camera, lens, file type, and capture date.
• Filter by date taken — a single day or a range.
• Show or hide file types individually, each with a live count.

Filtering only changes what you see — it never touches your ratings, undo
history, or what gets exported.

More formats supported

• Every still-image format macOS can read: all common camera RAW files
  (DNG, Canon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, and more), plus PNG,
  HEIC/HEIF, WebP, AVIF, JXL, GIF, BMP, PSD, TGA.
• RAW+JPEG pairing now works for every RAW type, not just Nikon and Fuji.
• Files Louppe can't preview (video, rare formats) now show a clear "file
  isn't supported" placeholder instead of quietly disappearing.

Smoother loading

• The loading spinner moved out of the middle of the photo to a small,
  quiet indicator in the toolbar.
• Switching photos now shows an instant preview instead of a blank pane.

A touch of color

Louppe now has a single purple brand accent — on the app icon, the start
screen, the selected photo, and the Export button. Green and red stay
reserved for Yes/No, so your decisions are still instantly readable.
