What is GAIA Code?

GAIA Code is a Claude Code-inspired prompt system for Perplexity Spaces. It turns a plain Perplexity Space into a disciplined, agentic engineering assistant — no app to install, no runtime to host. The product is a small set of Markdown prompt files you deploy into a Space.

New in 3.4

  • 🛡️ Skill-engine guardrail — skills loaded via /<name> can never override the gate or engine hard rules; the hierarchy is now enforced at the instruction level.
  • ✅ Accept Edits permission mode — a third mode alongside Ask and Bypass. Toggle with /accept-edits; GAIA executes writes without prompting while still surfacing what it's doing. All three modes persist in MEMORY.md.
  • Built-in /status and /help commands — instant session status and command reference without loading a skill file.
  • Memory export + auto-compaction — the ## Memories block compacts automatically as the Space context fills; manual export available anytime.
  • Plan archiving — completed plans are moved to plans/ instead of overwritten, preserving history.
  • Richer /update — running /update now lists what changed between your current version and the latest.
  • New bundled skills: /doctor and /pr-review — /doctor walks you through verifying your Space deployment is healthy; /pr-review gives GAIA a structured pull-request review workflow.
  • CI — scripts/check-version-sync.mjs enforces version consistency across all four canonical files, wired into a new GitHub Actions workflow alongside website lint/build.
  • Website — new /changelog page at gaiacode.pro/changelog with full release history.

The four engines

  • Gate / skill engine — SYSTEM_INSTRUCTIONS.md is pasted into your Space's Instructions box. It activates GAIA, raises the per-message tool budget, and powers slash-command skills: send /<name> and GAIA loads the matching uploaded file.
  • System prompt — SYSTEM_PROMPT.md defines GAIA's identity, tool philosophy, dependency/version-pinning discipline, security posture, and engineering principles.
  • Memory & plan engine — MEMORY_ENGINE.md gives the Space persistent memory (MEMORY.md) and a real planning loop (PLAN.md / TASKS.md): explore → plan → approve → execute, surviving across turns and compaction.
  • Turn engine — TURN_ENGINE.md budgets each turn: context estimation, a generous tool-call allowance, and commit batching so the agent does meaningful work without blowing past limits.
