Releases: alkalim/Knopo

v0.8.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 11 Oct 21:48

A maintenance release for references, block zooming, and the right sidebar.

Improved

  • Linked References and tag results follow document order, nest matching child blocks, and omit repeated breadcrumbs. Journal days show newest first, then other pages alphabetically.
  • Text in Linked References and tag views resizes with ⌘+/⌘-.
  • Page names, breadcrumbs, and bullets in Linked References and tag results open their targets. ⌘/Shift-click opens them in the right sidebar.
  • Zooming into a block keeps it visible and editable above its children. Edits, including pastes and moves, stay within that subtree.
  • Inline block references omit heading markers and act as one link to their source. ⌘K search, autocomplete, and breadcrumb previews omit them too.
  • New or reopened right-sidebar panes scroll into view without taking keyboard focus. ⌘/Shift-clicking a block in ⌘K search results, query results, Linked References, or a tag view opens its source page in the sidebar and scrolls to that block.
  • Opening Journal in the right sidebar shows today's journal page. The pane stays on that day when the graph reopens.

Fixes

  • Right-sidebar panes open and resize faster on large pages.
  • Visible block references refresh after source edits are saved, without moving focus or the caret.
  • Tag headings align with their block counts.

Knopo has an ad-hoc code signature, but it isn't signed with a Developer ID certificate or notarized. Gatekeeper may block a downloaded copy. After unzipping and moving Knopo.app into Applications, open the Terminal (Applications ▸ Utilities ▸ Terminal) and run this command to clear the quarantine flag:

sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Knopo.app

Then open the app normally. (Adjust the path if you keep the app elsewhere.)

v0.8.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Oct 18:41

PDF imports and Quick Look, with embedded tables and editing refinements.

New

  • Drag or paste PDFs from Finder to add them to your notes with a first-page preview.
  • Right-click an image or PDF preview to use Quick Look, open it in its default app, or reveal it in Finder. Pages also have a Reveal in Finder action.
  • Select blocks and press Space to preview their images and PDFs in Quick Look.
  • Tables now display properly inside page and block embeds.

Improved

  • Images and PDF previews use less memory when the same file appears in several places.
  • Pasting a copied page or block reference into an embed placeholder fills it without doubling the brackets.
  • Links and sidebar text are easier to read in dark mode.

Fixes

  • Drag and drop keeps working after the first drop.
  • Importing a symlink copies the file's contents into the graph instead of leaving a link to an outside file.
  • Tabs keep the correct labels when several graphs share a window.
  • Table borders and colored backgrounds have enough padding to avoid clipping.

v0.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Sep 18:58

Settings and journal dates, with smoother search, tabs and link previews.

New

  • Settings (⌘,) brings together the app's theme, body font weight and page-link bracket controls.
  • Journal titles can use abbreviated, long, numeric or ISO dates, or a custom pattern.
  • Graph Settings (⌥⌘,) shows the search index's size and can rebuild it from Markdown without clearing recent pages.
  • ⌘1–⌘8 switch to a numbered tab, ⌘9 selects the last tab, and ⌃⌘S toggles the left sidebar.
  • ⌘X cuts selected blocks. The Edit menu's Cut, Copy, Paste and Select All commands now work on block selections too.

Improved

  • New windows and tabs open in the focused window's graph.
  • Page-name search ignores accents, so cafe finds Café. Block search results open the full page with the matching block in view, rather than zooming into it.
  • Hovering a tag previews matching blocks. Page previews wait until you pause over a link, and clicking while a preview is open still follows the link.

Fixes

  • ⌘J reaches today's writing block even when you are far back in the journal feed.
  • Links inside query results and embeds follow their own targets instead of opening the surrounding result's source.

For contributors

  • The interface can now use added translations; the release remains in English, and a translation guide is included.
  • Building Knopo.app from source now needs Xcode for the icon. swift build and the test suite still work with the Command Line Tools.

v0.6.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Aug 11:54

A maintenance release: navigation fixes around results, ⌘J, and page links.

Fixes

  • A click in query, backlink or tag results lands on that block, and highlights only it.
  • A page opened from the sidebar or search starts at the top, instead of at a block clicked earlier in results.
  • ⌘J reaches today's writing block from anywhere.
  • A link to a namespaced page such as Tests/Page1 opens it, not a stub.

Improved

  • Bullets in embeds and query results match the outline's own.
  • A new graph opens on a refreshed welcome page, already favourited.

Opening Knopo the first time

Knopo isn't code-signed or notarized yet, so macOS quarantines the download and refuses to open it. After unzipping and moving Knopo.app into Applications, open the Terminal (Applications ▸ Utilities ▸ Terminal) and run this command to clear the quarantine flag:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Knopo.app

Then open the app normally. (Adjust the path if you keep the app elsewhere.)

v0.6.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Aug 16:21

A maintenance release: typing and saving stay quick in large pages, and a round of editing, journal and sidebar fixes.

Improved

  • Typing in a large page stays responsive: the indexing that follows each pause is around 40% faster on very large pages, and an edit that only changes text re-indexes just the blocks it touched.
  • A page is written 2 s after the last keystroke, and never later than 10 s after the first unsaved edit.
  • The caret always stays on screen when you move across blocks in edit mode.
  • ⌘J always goes to the journal. Pressed while the journal is already showing, it puts the caret in today's writing block rather than opening today's own page, so repeated presses no longer cycle between two views.
  • A day's heading is the same size in the journal feed as on its own page, so opening a day no longer resizes its title.
  • A page's only block keeps its bullet, and placeholder text only appears in edit mode.
  • Graphs on filesystems with no shared memory (SMB, NFS) open using a single-connection index instead of refusing to open. Reads wait behind a write there, so it is slower but correct.
  • Knopo no longer mistakes its own save for an outside edit while you type — each mix-up cost a fruitless scan of the whole graph.

Fixed

  • Quitting or switching away from Knopo writes pending edits immediately.
  • Deleting a journal day's text removes that day from the feed, instead of leaving it there for good as a blank entry.
  • A journal feed rebuilt around a new day no longer leaves a stale editor behind.
  • The empty-block hint draws on the same baseline as the block's own text.
  • ⇧/⌘+Click on a page already open in the right sidebar brings that card to the top and expands it, instead of stacking a second copy of the same page.

v0.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Aug 13:53

Tables, and an editing pass: journals open ready to write, clicks and arrows land where you meant, and undo works while you type.

New

  • Tables. GitHub-style pipe tables render as a real grid, with per-column alignment. Page links, tags, emphasis and inline code all work inside cells, and a reference in a cell shows up in backlinks like any other.
  • A table fills the width of the page. Add a table-width:: min property line to keep one only as wide as its content needs.
  • Today's journal opens ready to write: the caret starts in an empty block at the end of the day, whether or not you have written anything yet. Simply opening the journal changes nothing on disk.
  • A page with nothing in it yet shows a faint "Start typing, or / for commands" in its first block.
  • [[Jun 10th, 2026]]-style date references resolve to that journal day, so notes imported from Logseq link up instead of leaving stubs.

Improved

  • ⌘J opens the journal; pressing it while the journal home is showing opens today's own page.
  • ↑/↓ keep the caret's column when they cross into another block, instead of dropping it at the start or end of the next one.
  • Fenced code blocks edit as code: monospaced, no Markdown styling, and no autocomplete popping up inside them.
  • Page-link autocomplete lists pages you have created ahead of journal days and unwritten stubs.
  • Left open past midnight, the journal home adds the new day itself.

Fixed

  • Undo works while you are typing: ⌘Z now takes back the edit you just made instead of doing nothing.
  • Undo, Redo, zoom, New Tab and the other menu commands no longer grey out while the cursor is in a block.
  • Clicking rendered text puts the caret exactly where you clicked — including after bold, inside a page link, and within inline code or a fenced block.
  • Clicking a row's left gutter, or the padding around its text, focuses that block instead of doing nothing.
  • A journal day written by Logseq (2026_06_10.md) and one written by Knopo (2026-06-10.md) count as the same day rather than two.
  • Tag and inline-code backgrounds no longer balloon on a line that also holds a large image.
  • The "Click to add a block" placeholder follows the content zoom and line-spacing settings.

Opening Knopo the first time

Knopo isn't code-signed or notarized yet, so macOS quarantines the download and refuses to open it. After unzipping and moving Knopo.app into Applications, open the Terminal (Applications ▸ Utilities ▸ Terminal) and run this command to clear the quarantine flag:

v0.5.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Jul 18:56

A maintenance release: All Pages refinements and a right-sidebar rename fix.

New

  • All Pages sections (Pages, each namespace, and Journal) can be collapsed, and their collapse state is remembered per graph.

Improved

  • All Pages keeps journal days in their own section with friendly date titles, newest first, separate from regular and namespaced pages.

Fixed

  • Renaming a page updates any open right-sidebar cards showing that page, instead of leaving them pointing at the old name.

Opening Knopo the first time

Knopo isn't code-signed or notarized yet, so macOS quarantines the download and refuses to open it. After unzipping and moving Knopo.app into Applications, open the Terminal (Applications ▸ Utilities ▸ Terminal) and run this command to clear the quarantine flag:

v0.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Jul 21:04

Much faster editing on large pages, and a body font-weight setting.

New

  • Font weight setting (View ▸ Font Weight): Light, Medium, or Heavy body text.
  • ***bold italic*** renders as bold italic.
  • Selecting several blocks gives a dedicated right-click menu (copy or delete the selection), rendered blocks get the block menu without needing focus, and copying now puts exactly the selected blocks on the clipboard.

Improved

  • Pages with many blocks and references open quicker, and pressing Enter or moving blocks updates only the affected rows instead of re-rendering the whole page. Typing no longer hitches around the auto-save.
  • The journal home puts more air between a day's last block and the next day's separator.
  • On macOS 26, the right sidebar is lighter, with subtler card borders and slightly larger card titles.

Fixed

  • Inline-code backgrounds no longer smear across wrapped lines.
  • Clicking a query or reference result reliably highlights the target block.
  • Nested indentation scales with the content zoom.
  • Shift+Up/Down shrinks a selection back toward its start instead of always growing it.

Opening Knopo the first time

Knopo isn't code-signed or notarized yet, so macOS quarantines the download and refuses to open it. After unzipping and moving Knopo.app into Applications, open the Terminal (Applications ▸ Utilities ▸ Terminal) and run this command to clear the quarantine flag:

v0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Jul 21:38

Images, live TODO checkboxes in queries and embeds, and a native find bar.

New

  • Insert images by dragging files in from Finder, pasting (a copied file or a screenshot), or the /image command. Drag an image's right edge to resize it. Sizes use ![alt|width] (Obsidian) or Logseq's {:width} suffix - both are read, the pipe form is written.
  • Check TODO / DONE items on and off directly in {{query}} results and {{embed}} blocks; the toggle updates the source block wherever it lives.
  • Bare http(s):// URLs are clickable in rendered text without needing [...](...).
  • Select several blocks and press Tab / Shift+Tab to indent or outdent them together.

Improved

  • The find bar (Cmd+F) is rebuilt from native controls - a real search field, a prev/next stepper, and a toolbar-material strip. It focuses reliably even when you were mid-edit, and typing stays fast on large pages.
  • Right-clicking inside a block now shows a relevant menu instead of the stock text-editing one.

Fixed

  • Pasting multi-line text into a quote block keeps it as one block instead of splitting it into several.
  • TODO checkboxes no longer pushed the bullet out of alignment or added extra spacing before the next block.

Opening Knopo the first time

Knopo isn't code-signed or notarized yet, so macOS quarantines the download and refuses to open it. After unzipping and moving Knopo.app into Applications, open the Terminal (Applications ▸ Utilities ▸ Terminal) and run this command to clear the quarantine flag:

v0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 09 Jul 13:13

Everseq is now Knopo. Same app, new name: the download, the app bundle, and the knopo:// link scheme all follow. A graph's index and settings folder is now .knopo/ (the old .everseq/ folder is ignored; the index rebuilds automatically, but per-graph favourites and sidebar layout do not carry over).

New

  • Drag and drop: drag a block by its bullet to reorder it or move it under another parent. Dropping between rows inserts it there; dropping onto a block makes it that block's first child. Dragging a selected bullet moves the whole selection.
  • Moving blocks with the keyboard (⌥↑/⌥↓) now works on a multi-block selection too, moving the selected blocks as one unit.
  • Typing a formatting marker with text selected wraps the selection instead of replacing it: [ [ turns it into a page link, backticks into code, * * into bold, and so on.

Improved

  • Lighter look for the outline: softer text color, smaller light-gray bullets that scale with zoom, and a rounded padded box behind inline code.

Fixed

  • Pages that exist only as references (stubs) now show with the casing they were written in, not lowercase.
