Allyn Viewer 1.0.0 (43) Beta

Choose a tag to compare

@allynviewer allynviewer released this 23 Oct 15:57

This release rebuilds the bar above the chat bar. AO, voice, volume, environment, and mouselook are separate controls, and they stay on the right when the window is narrow.

New Features

Bottom Bar

  • The right side of the bar is now an AO light, an AO OFF / AO ON button, the voice controls, Volume, and Environment.
  • When the window is too narrow for the whole bar, those controls stay packed against the right edge.
  • The AO light is red when AO is off and green when AO is on. Click it to switch.
  • AO OFF / AO ON follows the same state. Click it to open or close the AO window.
  • Volume opens music and media controls, including play, pause, and stop. The button shows a speaker, and a muted speaker when audio is muted. Closing the window turns the button off.
  • Environment opens sky, water, time of day, and presets. Closing the window turns the button off.
  • The first time, Volume and Environment open just above their buttons. After you move a window, it reopens where you left it.
  • The voice controls size themselves to the Talk label. During a call, End Call and the channel name sit on the row above.
  • Entering mouselook hides the AO light, the AO button, voice, Volume, and Environment. Windows that were open from those buttons close, and come back when you leave mouselook if the button is still on.
  • In the AO window, Show AO button hides both the light and the AO OFF / AO ON button. This option used to be Show AO toolbar.

Mouselook

  • Mouselook is its own button, labeled mouselock, sitting just above Environment and lined up with that button.
  • Click it to enter mouselook. The button stays pressed while you are in mouselook. Click it again to return to the normal camera.

AO Window

  • The window is taller.
  • Force swim is new. It is off by default and is kept after a restart. Turning it on also turns on the swim override, and swim animations play instead of fly even when you are not underwater.
  • In English and Portuguese, the main switch is labeled AO.
  • Force swim, Show AO button, Volume, and Environment are available in Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano, 日本語, Português (Brasil), Русский, and Türkçe. The AO button still reads AO OFF / AO ON, and the mouselook button still reads mouselock.

@allynviewer allynviewer released this 22 Oct 04:01

This release lets windows that are not in use become partly transparent, and adds a control for how solid they stay.

New Features

Unfocused Windows

  • Preferences → General → Windows now has Unfocused window opacity.
  • The value runs from 0 to 1. 1 is fully opaque. 0 hides windows that are not in use. A new installation uses 0.650.
  • The window you are using keeps its normal opacity.
  • The change is applied as soon as focus moves, including when you click the 3D world.
  • Text, buttons, icons, lists, checkboxes, images, web pages, the color picker, accordions, the menu bar on the window, statistics, and the thumbnail inside Snapshot follow that window.
  • An open dropdown stays opaque. It is drawn outside the window.
  • The same setting is still available under Preferences → Visual → Main, as Inactive Transparency. Both controls read and write one value.
  • Dragging the slider updates the windows immediately. Apply and OK save it. Cancel restores the value from when Preferences was opened, unless Apply already saved a new one.
  • The value is kept after a restart.
  • An installation that already saved this setting keeps that saved value. The previous default was 1, so those windows stay fully opaque until the slider is changed.
  • The section is available in Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano, 日本語, Português (Brasil), Русский, and Türkçe.

Fixes

Interface

  • The mini-map, the chat bar, the toolbar, and the other fixed bars stay opaque.
  • The About window credits line now reads Allyn Viewer.

Known Issues

  • The world map stays fully opaque when it does not have focus. Its tiles and the ocean are drawn so that changing their opacity would paint the ocean over the map.
  • The full-screen frozen preview in Snapshot stays opaque. It is drawn over the world, not inside the Snapshot window. The thumbnail inside that window does follow the setting.

Allyn Viewer 1.0.0 — Build 42

Focus of this release: opacity of windows that are not in use.

@allynviewer allynviewer released this 13 Oct 20:14

This release lets you choose how long notifications stay on screen, retries a teleport when the destination is full, rebuilds the Snapshot window, and adds a mouselook aim assist.

New Features

Notifications

  • Preferences → General now has Notification display duration (seconds).
  • Each notification stays on screen for that many seconds, then fades into the Notifications list.
  • The allowed range is 5 to 600 seconds. A new installation uses 30 seconds.
  • Holding the mouse over a notification pauses its timer. If it has already started to fade, moving the pointer back onto it restores the full duration.
  • The timer also stays paused while the teleport screen is up.
  • A notification that is taller or wider than the space on screen scrolls inside its own area. Group notices do the same.
  • Notifications that arrive while the world is still loading, except high-priority ones, go straight into the Notifications list.
  • After login, one summary says how many of those notifications were moved. If offline messages are still arriving, that summary waits up to 15 seconds so the count can include them.

Teleport Retry

When a teleport fails because the region is full, or because the region is shutting down or restarting, the viewer opens Region is full.

  • The window shows the destination region.
  • Single teleport closes the window and does not start further attempts.
  • Multiple teleport opens Multiple teleport and keeps trying the same destination.
  • The first attempt waits 15 seconds. The window shows the destination, coordinates, attempts started, total time, current interval, countdown, state, and the last server message.
  • Pause holds the countdown. Resume continues it.
  • Closing the status window stops the retries.
  • A successful teleport shows Completed.
  • If the server says teleports are coming too fast, the interval doubles and the window marks it as increased. A later full-region, maintenance, or timeout failure returns the interval to 15 seconds.
  • Access denied, an unknown destination, and other errors stop the cycle and show Error.
  • An attempt that is still unfinished after 60 seconds also stops with Error.
  • Starting another teleport while a retry is waiting cancels the cycle.
  • During an automatic retry, a full region, maintenance, timeout, or rate limit does not add another copy of the usual teleport error. The status window keeps the last server message.
  • The choice and the status window remember their positions.

Snapshot

  • The destination is a set of buttons with icons: Save to Disk, Save to Inventory, Share to Profile Feed, and Send via E-mail.
  • Refresh stays on the same row as the button that shows or hides the large preview.
  • A new installation opens Snapshot with the large preview visible.
  • The controls column scrolls when the window is short. An open dropdown stays drawn above that scroll area.
  • The window can be resized down to 228 × 220.

Macro

A new Macro tab in Preferences controls mouselook aim.

  • ALT + I locks the aim on the avatar under the crosshair. Press it again to release. The lock does not depend on the option below.
  • ALT + O toggles the dynamic aim assist.
  • Enable aim assist is off until you turn it on.
  • Acquisition sensitivity is how far from the crosshair an avatar can be acquired, as a percentage of half the vertical field of view. 0% never acquires a target.
  • Assist strength is how strongly the view is pulled toward that avatar. 0% applies no pull. 99% is the strongest setting and still lets you move the aim away.
  • While it is available, mouselook shows the current shortcut or the locked / assist state, and the avatar name.
  • It works only in mouselook, and only while Hitboxes do avatar is enabled under Advanced → Rendering.
  • That hitbox option is not saved. It has to be turned on again after each start.
  • Range follows the draw distance, and also follows an RLV camera-distance restriction when one is active.

Fixes

Navigation Bar

  • Clicking the location field selects the whole address and finishes that selection, so the highlight stays in place when the mouse moves and the address can be replaced by typing.

World Map

  • Regions larger than one region are drawn with the rest of the map, including when their anchor cell is outside the area being walked.
  • Finding which region contains a point checks that short list of large regions.
  • The map requests at most 8 new map blocks each update, so panning a wide area fills in across updates.
  • The land-for-sale overlay keeps its image when the same image is reported again.

Teleport Messages

  • The repeated-teleport error now says attempts are limited to 6 per minute, and to wait one minute before trying again.
  • Missing messages for Welcome Island, an already-running teleport, age-restricted regions, and Skill Gaming regions are shown again.

Avatar Display

  • Avatar Display diagnostic lines are written only while that trace is enabled, so a normal session does not keep recording them.

Known Issues

  • Don't ask again on Region is full is stored backwards. While that box is checked, the viewer still asks the next time. Clear it to reuse the last mode without asking. With Multiple teleport remembered, the retry then starts on its own.
  • The same Region is full window also opens when the region is shutting down or restarting. The prompt text still says the region is full.
  • Hitboxes do avatar has to be enabled again after every start before Macro can run.

Allyn Viewer 1.0.0 — Build 38

Focus of this release: notification duration, teleport retry, the Snapshot window, and mouselook aim assist.

Allyn Viewer 1.0.0 (32) Beta

Choose a tag to compare

@allynviewer allynviewer released this 08 Oct 19:51

This release makes the viewer remember where you put your windows, makes the toolbar button chooser resizable, refreshes the navigation bar search, and fixes avatars and attachments that could stay missing with Only show friends or Only show self.

New Features

Window Position and Size

Windows now keep their position and size between sessions.

  • When you move, resize, or close a window, its position and size are saved.
  • The next time the window opens, it appears where you left it.
  • Windows that did not save their position before now get their own saved geometry automatically.
  • Windows that used to always open in the center of the screen now respect the position you chose. This includes Profile, Group invite / ban picker, Buy, Buy Contents, Buy Currency, Mute Object, Preferences, Voice settings, Voice terms of service, Classified, Event, Parcel, Land Holdings, Sell Land, Auction, Open Object, Group Invite, Group Bulk Ban, God Tools, Translation settings, Update, Edit UI, and Make New Outfit.
  • Windows that have not been moved yet still open centered as before.
  • A window saved outside the visible area is brought back on screen, and a saved size larger than the screen is reduced to fit.
  • Minimized windows save their expanded size, not the minimized bar.
  • Web content windows remember their size separately for each window type.
  • Pathfinding Characters now remembers its position.

Toolbar Button Chooser

  • The Choose the buttons you want shown on the toolbar window can now be resized.
  • The button list scrolls and rearranges its columns to fit the width of the window.
  • The filter keeps working with the new layout and returns to the top of the list when you type.
  • The window now has its own saved position. It no longer shares it with the Upload window.

Navigation Bar

  • The search field has rounded corners.
  • The search button has a new icon and sits right next to the search field.

Fixes

Avatar Display

  • With Only show friends or Only show self, attachments that arrived before their avatar are now requested as soon as the avatar is in the region, so they no longer stay missing.
  • Avatar appearance data that arrives before the avatar itself is now kept in every Avatar Display mode and applied when the avatar shows up.

Interface

  • Search window: the minimum height was reduced from 700 to 600, so it fits on smaller screens.
  • Mini-map now opens fully inside the screen.
  • Advanced Object Weights is wider and taller, so its labels are no longer cut off.
  • Build tools: the linked object count and the selection count no longer overlap.
  • Items in the top menu bar that run an action directly now look and line up the same way as the other menu titles.
  • The error shown when default object permissions cannot be saved is now a modal dialog.

Known Issues

  • After Only show self, avatars load again from scratch when you switch back to Limit by complexity. The first return can take longer than hiding avatars that were already on screen.
  • Windows that have never been moved still use their original default position. Saved positions start being used only after the window is moved, resized, or closed once.

Allyn Viewer 1.0.0 — Build 32

Focus of this release: saved window positions, toolbar button chooser, and Avatar Display fixes.

@allynviewer allynviewer released this 07 Oct 14:12

This release adds control over avatar name tags, makes Avatar Display actually unload avatars you choose not to see, and makes crash reports more reliable when the viewer stops unexpectedly.

New Features

Avatar Name Tags

  • Added Show avatar name tags under Preferences → Graphics.
  • When enabled, the name and group title stay visible above avatars.
  • When disabled, those tags are hidden.
  • This option does not change Avatar Display. Avatars can stay visible while their name tags are hidden.
  • The setting is saved and is available in the supported viewer languages.
  • Name tags are shown by default.

Avatar Display

Avatar Display now controls whether other avatars are loaded, not only how they are drawn.

  • Limit by complexity — avatars load as usual, within the complexity limit.
  • Always show friends — friends stay visible even when they would otherwise be limited by complexity.
  • Only friends — avatars who are not friends are not kept loaded.
  • Only show self — other avatars are not kept loaded.

With Only friends or Only show self, the viewer drops the avatars you are not displaying, including their attachments, so they do not keep using memory, CPU, or GPU.

  • Changing the option applies immediately.
  • Adding or removing a friend updates who stays loaded when Only friends or Always show friends is selected.
  • Your own avatar stays loaded.
  • Switching back to a mode that allows those avatars loads them again through the normal avatar pipeline.

  • The login panel adapts better when the window size changes.

Fixes

Crash Reporting

  • A Windows crash is now recorded even when the viewer stops during login or while the region is loading.
  • The pending session log includes the Windows exception code, so the next startup can send the report.
  • A second copy of the viewer no longer replaces or discards a crash report that is waiting to be sent.
  • The same pending report is still submitted only once.

Stability

  • When free system memory drops below 1 GB, the viewer slows new memory allocation. Normal allocation resumes after free memory rises above 1.5 GB.
  • A second copy of the viewer no longer overwrites your settings or clears the cache when it closes.
  • Temporary cache files created for that second copy are removed on exit.

Known Issues

  • After Only show self, avatars load again from scratch when you switch back to Limit by complexity. The first return can take longer than hiding avatars that were already on screen.
  • An avatar who enters while Only show self is already on is not stored locally. That person is requested from the simulator only after you allow other avatars again.

Allyn Viewer 1.0.0 — Build 30

Focus of this release: avatar name tags, Avatar Display memory use, and crash reporting.

@allynviewer allynviewer released this 06 Oct 02:48

This release introduces support for PBR (GLTF) materials, new graphics, reflection, and network controls, improved Two-Factor Authentication, a cleaner login experience, and a new automatic crash reporting system.

New Features

PBR Materials

  • Added support for PBR (GLTF) materials for objects, attachments, and inventory items.
  • Added a PBR ON / PBR OFF option to the viewer menu. PBR is enabled by default.
  • With PBR ON, a valid PBR material takes priority over the face's classic texture.
  • With PBR OFF, a valid classic texture takes priority over the PBR material.
  • Faces without a valid classic texture continue to use the PBR material even when PBR is turned off.
  • PBR material identifiers are preserved in both modes, allowing users to switch between PBR ON and PBR OFF without losing the material assigned to an object.
  • PBR materials worn by avatars are properly updated when attachments are added.

Graphics

Added new controls under Preferences → Graphics → PBR:

  • Reflection Detail — controls reflection detail:

    • Static Only
    • Static and Dynamic
    • Real-Time
  • Reflection Coverage — controls the area covered by reflections:

    • None
    • Manual Only
    • Manual and Terrain
    • Entire Scene
  • Max. Reflection Probes — controls the maximum number of reflection probes:

    • None
    • Low
    • Medium
    • High
    • Ultra
  • HDR and Emissive — support for HDR and emissive materials, including an Exposure control.

  • Screen Space Reflections (SSR).

  • Mirrors.

  • Tone Mapper — choose between:

    • Khronos Neutral
    • ACES
  • Added Tone Mapping Mix to control the intensity of tone mapping.

  • Boosted textures can now be loaded at higher resolutions, providing improved sharpness for objects and surfaces close to the camera.

Network and Cache

New options are available under Preferences → Network:

  • Added an Unlimited option for maximum bandwidth.
  • When Unlimited is enabled, the viewer does not apply a bandwidth limit to asset and texture downloads.
  • Bandwidth controls are automatically disabled while Unlimited is enabled.
  • A new installation now starts with a 10 GB disk cache.
  • The maximum supported disk cache size is now 20 GB.

  • Added support for accounts protected by Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
  • Accounts with 2FA now prompt for the authentication code generated by the user's authenticator app.
  • Added Remember this computer for 30 days.
  • Removed the scrollbar from the login form.
  • The logo and login fields now adapt to the size of the window.
  • If the startup page fails because of a temporary network error, the viewer silently retries the connection before displaying an error screen.

Crash Reporting

The viewer now keeps track of the current session and can automatically submit a crash report the next time the viewer starts if the previous session did not end normally.

  • During normal use, the active session is stored in Allyn-session.log.
  • When the viewer exits normally, the session log is removed and nothing is submitted.
  • If the viewer crashes, encounters an internal error, or fails during logout, the session log is preserved as Allyn-session.pending.log.
  • On the next startup, the viewer automatically submits the pending crash report.
  • Once the report is successfully accepted, the pending files are removed.
  • The same crash report is never submitted more than once.
  • A second instance of the viewer running at the same time does not participate in the pending crash report submission.
  • Outdated diagnostic logs that are no longer required for crash reporting, including update, heap, and texture logs, are automatically removed at startup.

Crash Report Contents

The report may include:

  • Viewer version, release channel, and build number

  • Shutdown type:

    • Crash
    • Internal Error
    • Other Failure
    • Crash During Logout
    • Failure During Logout
  • Session duration

  • Operating system

  • Processor

  • System memory

  • Graphics card

  • OpenGL version

  • Failure reason, based on the last error line or failure block

  • The final portion of the session log, up to approximately 200 KB

Privacy Filtering

Before a report is submitted, its contents are automatically filtered to remove sensitive information.

  • Lines containing passwords, login information, session information, account balances, and region information are removed.
  • IP addresses are replaced with [ip].
  • Email addresses are replaced with [email].
  • The user's local folder name is removed from file paths.

Crash reporting can also be controlled from Preferences → General → Crash Reporting:

  • Always Send — automatically submit eligible crash reports.
  • Never Send — prevent crash reports from being submitted.

The default setting is Always Send.

Fixes

  • Improved handling of unexpected viewer shutdowns.
  • Improved detection and classification of crashes, internal errors, and logout failures.
  • Improved cleanup of obsolete diagnostic logs.

Known Issues

  • PBR support is still being actively developed and some materials may render differently depending on the content and graphics configuration.
  • Some legacy objects or materials may behave differently when switching between PBR ON and PBR OFF.
