Release list
Slate Drive 1.0.0 beta 2
Important when updating
- Cloud recognition runs again once. Previously saved cloud-model
transcriptions and AI Studio results are regenerated when first needed.
These are normal paid requests to your provider; large libraries may
temporarily reach its rate limits. - Use Check for Updates… to update from beta 1, or install the
.pkg
from the release page. - New rules are not compatible with beta 1. Going back to beta 1 is
not supported for rules created in this release. - Tags changed in Finder do not trigger rules yet. Use Process now;
tag changes on the tablet trigger rules automatically.
Highlights
- A new Highlights window gathers marked passages by document, with
images of each passage and text on request. Remove individual highlights
or all highlights in a document from the tablet. - Highlights as Images exports passages to PDF, Word, PNG or Markdown
without a model or AI charges.
AI Studio and recognition
- More flexible rules: trigger on new or changed documents, tags or
highlights; combine conditions and run multiple steps. Rules can organise
documents with tags, favourites, folders and trash without AI charges.
Retry resumes from the failed step. - MyScript handwriting recognition reads pen strokes. Handwritten
Markdown supports headings, bold, italic and strikethrough across all
engines. Typed text keeps its position among handwritten lines. - Transcription settings per action control formatting, tables,
checkboxes and drawings, with optional AI formatting of recognised text.
Markdown exports keep drawings as attachments, including in Obsidian and
Logseq. - File replacement is optional. Local folder outputs keep existing files
and save a numbered copy unless you enable Replace a file of the same name. - Improved connection recovery, preservation of tablet edits in Studio
output, and spending totals when runs fail or the journal is trimmed.
Other changes
- Sync across Macs: AI connections, recognition and sending settings,
recognised text and highlight scans sync through iCloud. API keys use
iCloud Keychain; local paths, MCP tokens and network addresses stay on each Mac. - Shortcuts can find and open documents and retrieve files or text, with
access through Spotlight and Siri. With editing enabled, Shortcuts can
also organise documents and create folders. - MCP supports separate, revocable tokens with individual permissions,
plus listing and removing highlights. Existing tokens keep working. - Background operation: Launch at login now uses a helper that restarts
the app after an unexpected exit. With it enabled, Close hides the app
while syncing continues; Quit stops it until you reopen it or log in
again. The menu bar icon is optional and no longer accepts dropped files. - Uninstall Slate Drive… removes the Finder drive, helper and app,
preserving unsynced changes, backups and cloud documents. Local app data
can optionally be moved to the Trash.

Warning
This is the first public build, and it's a beta. The About window says so too: there's a BETA stamp, and the version line shows the commit the build came from. If something breaks, paste that line into your report and I'll know exactly what you were running.
Slate Drive shows your reMarkable cloud library in Finder. Notebooks open as PDFs rendered on your Mac, and you can send files to the tablet from pretty much any app.
At a glance
- The library shows up under Locations in Finder, with the same folders and documents you see on the tablet.
- Notebooks and annotated documents (
.rmv6) are rendered to PDF locally. Templates, the tablet's fonts, and the grain of the pencil and brush all come through. Plain PDFs and EPUBs are passed through untouched. - To send something to the tablet, use the Share menu, drop it on the menu-bar icon or the Dock icon, or put it on the Shelf. Images, Word, Pages, Markdown, HTML, RTF and plain text get converted to a PDF or a notebook. For a notebook you can choose typed text or text written out by hand in ballpoint.
- AI Studio runs a prompt over pages and writes the result to a file. You can attach an action to a folder with a monthly dollar budget, and every run is logged with its token count and cost.
Everything in this build
Files. Finder access is read-only until you turn editing on. After that you can create folders, add files, rename, move things around and use the tablet's trash. Pinning a folder or document keeps it on the Mac for offline use.
Backup. If you want, Slate Drive keeps a running copy of the whole library in a folder of your choice. Readable PDFs sit next to the tablet's own files.
Printing. There's an optional virtual printer, so anything you can print can go to the tablet.
Search. Spotlight can index document text. For handwriting and scans, pick an OCR engine: Apple Vision, Tesseract, Google Cloud Vision, Yandex Vision, or an AI connection.
Integrations. Export goes one way, to Obsidian, Logseq, Bear, Apple Notes, Zotero, DEVONthink, Readwise and Readwise Reader.
MCP. A local MCP server for Claude Desktop and Claude Code. It's off by default and listens on localhost only.
Requirements
- macOS 15 or later
- A reMarkable account with a paired tablet and an active Connect subscription
Installation
- Download
Slate-Drive-1.0.0-beta-8d2325f.dmgfrom Assets below. - Drag Slate Drive into
Applicationsand open it. - Enter the eight-character code from your reMarkable account website when asked.
Important
Keep one copy of the app on your Mac. The Finder volume comes from a File Provider extension, which macOS ties to one specific app bundle. A second copy lying around, say in Downloads or on a mounted DMG, can take the volume away from the copy you actually use.
Privacy
There are no analytics and no telemetry. The app runs in the App Sandbox. Tokens and API keys are stored in the Keychain and never in settings files or logs.
Page images leave your Mac in three cases only: you turned on a cloud OCR engine, you ran an AI action, or you set up a rule. Each of these tells you so at the place where you switch it on.
Reporting issues
Open an issue and include:
- the version line from About (it has the commit hash)
- your macOS version
- what you did and what happened
