Bad Pixel is a simple application that helps you check your display for defective (dead or stuck) pixels.
A defective pixel is a display pixel that does not function correctly, causing it to remain permanently on, permanently off, or display an incorrect color. Learn more on the Defective Pixel Wikipedia page.
The app displays a series of solid colors to help identify two common types of pixel defects:
- Dead pixels (permanently unlit)
- Stuck pixels (permanently lit)
The following test colors are available:
- Black
- Red
- Green
- Blue
- Cyan
- Magenta
- Yellow
- White
These colors cover the RGB and CMY color spectrum, along with black and white, making it easy to spot display defects.
- Clean your screen with a soft microfiber cloth to remove dust, fingerprints, and smudges.
- Launch the application.
- Swipe left or right to switch between the test colors.
- Carefully inspect the entire display. Each screen should appear as a uniform, solid color. If you notice a pixel that remains black, stays lit, or displays a different color than the rest of the screen, it may be defective.
For more information about display defects and pixel quality standards, see the ISO 13406-2 standard.
