ORACLE PAGER // OFFLINE DECENTRALIZED CHAT

Tested in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - 2026.
A self-made project by r/arpegiator-000

ORACLE PAGER is a 100% OFF-GRID communication system. No internet, no SIM card, no cloud server. Just 2 ESP32s creating their own autonomous network.

Inspired by cyberpunk pagers, M5Stack Cardputer and cold-war terminal aesthetics.

1. UI / UX CONCEPT

The interface was designed to be brutalist and functional.

Philosophy:

  • No-BS Terminal: Pure black background (#000), phosphor green text (#0F0), monospace font. Zero distraction.
  • Glitch Ready: It doesn't try to be pretty. It tries to be readable under direct sunlight and low battery.
  • One-Handed Use: On the Cardputer, everything is typed and sent with one thumb. Huge SEND button.

Server Screen (ESP32 Host):
ORACLE PAGER // OFFLINE blinking header. Central chat area with 65vh and auto-scroll. Fixed input at bottom. When a message arrives, it makes no sound, it just appears. Silent.

Client Screen (Cardputer):
Replicates the same visual with physical keyboard. The goal is to look like a seized device, not a store gadget.

2. HOW IT WORKS

[CARDputer] --WiFi Direct--> [ESP32 SERVER] --WebSocket Broadcast--> [All Connected Clients]

  1. The ESP32 SERVER powers on and creates an open WiFi network called ORACLE_PAGER
  2. Any phone, laptop or other Cardputer that connects to this network and opens 192.168.4.1 joins the chat
  3. The server stores nothing. It's a volatile relay. Power off, data is gone. 100% anonymous and ephemeral.

3. HARDWARE

  • Client: M5Stack Cardputer (ESP32-S3) - flash Oracle.Firmware.Test.bin
  • Host / Server: Any ESP32 / ESP32-WROOM-32 - flash ESP32.Host.Server.bin

4. INSTALLATION

Option 1 - Quick (BIN):

  1. Download both.bins from the Releases tab
  2. Use ESP Flash Tool: Flash at address 0x0

Option 2 - Dev (Source Code):
Open ESP32_Server/ESP32_Server.ino in Arduino IDE, install library WebSockets by Markus Sattler and upload.

**OPTION 3 - (SD Card .bin) Paste the Firmware .bin file directly on SD Card. Use Launcher to install.

5. ROADMAP

  • End-to-end encryption
  • Mesh network between multiple HOSTS
  • Battery pack + 3D printed case
