Sleep, wake, and battery — sorted
This one is all about the lifecycle: putting your Mac to sleep, waking it, plugging and unplugging, restarting. A handful of recent bugs there added up to a rough experience for some of you, especially on laptops with an external monitor. They're fixed.
Fixed
- No more freeze when waking with an external monitor. Some Macs woke to a black built-in display, a stale wallpaper on the external screen, a sluggish cursor, and a system that was hard to even shut down. Wallper was rebuilding every wallpaper window dozens of times a second as the displays reconnected. It now reuses what's already on screen instead of tearing it down and starting over — wake is instant again.
- Your wallpaper no longer stops after logging in. On battery, the live wallpaper could pause itself right after startup — even at 100% charge. "Pause on battery" now only kicks in when the battery is actually low (20% or less), so a charged laptop keeps playing.
- Your wallpaper comes back after a restart. It was reverting to the default macOS wallpaper after a reboot on battery. Now it's always restored on launch; if the battery is genuinely low it comes back paused on its last frame, so you still see your wallpaper instead of the system default.
- Playlists resume on their own again. No more having to open the app and turn the wallpaper back on after opening your laptop.
- Turning "pause on battery" on or off takes effect immediately and reliably brings the wallpaper back when you turn it off.
Note on battery
"Turn wallpapers off on battery" now means when the battery is low (≤20%), not the moment you unplug. Most people are plugged in most of the time and just want their wallpaper to keep playing — this matches that, while still saving power when it counts.
