Pet Simulator
This is my dev log for the Pet Simulator I'm building in Python. I'm using it to practice OOP and add more features as I learn new concepts.
I worked on adding an achievement system to the Pet Simulator.
The game keeps track of things the player does, and achievements can be unlocked when certain requirements are met.
Some ideas for achievements:
- Feed your pet a certain number of times
- Use a certain number of commands
- Reach certain pet stats
- Complete different challenges
I also worked on fixing the achievement menu so that when an achievement is unlocked, it actually shows up under View Achievements.
I also started using json to save game information.
The goal is to save things like:
doggy_coins- Achievements
- Player statistics
- Other progress
This makes JSON more useful in the project because the player's progress can be saved instead of disappearing when the program closes.
I continued working on the achievement system and how achievements are displayed.
There are now two main states for achievements:
Locked
Unlocked
I also started thinking about achievements that could be connected to future features, like mini-games and Doggy Coins.
I started adding mini-games so the Pet Simulator isn't only about feeding, playing with, and taking care of the pet.
The mini-games can also give the player doggy_coins as rewards.
I made a Number Guesser game.
The player gets 5 attempts to guess a random number between 1 and 25.
The game tells the player if their guess is:
Too low!Too high!
If they guess correctly, they get 10 Doggy Coins.
I also added an attempts variable to keep track of how many guesses the player has used.
I also made a Pet Trivia game.
Right now, the player gets 3 questions.
Every correct answer gives them 1 point.
At the end, their points are turned into Doggy Coins:
points × 10 = Doggy Coins earned
For example:
3 points × 10 = 30 Doggy Coins
I wanted the questions to be more interesting than basic animal trivia, so I started using questions about things like pet ownership and how people view cats and dogs.
I also came up with an idea for another mini-game.
A pattern will appear on the screen for a short amount of time. Then it disappears and the player has to type what they remember.
The game will compare the answer to the original pattern and give points for the characters that were remembered correctly.
For example:
Pattern:
CATDOG
Player:
CATD0G
The player would get points for the characters they got right.
I want to make this harder later by:
- Making the patterns longer
- Showing them for less time
- Adding numbers
- Mixing letters and numbers
Some features I want to work on next:
- More mini-games
- Memory game
- Pet personality
- XP and levels
- Inventory
- Doggy Coin shop
- Random events
- Daily challenges
- Multiple pets
- More achievements
- Better save/load system
I'm going to keep adding features as I learn more Python and OOP.
