San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.3: Rewind no longer crashes the game after heavy use, and the game keeps a log you can send in when something goes wrong.

Made with AI. Almost all of the code was written by AI agents (Claude), directed and play-tested by a person.

You need your own ROM of the US release (.z64, SHA-1 3f99351d7bb61656614bdb2aa1a90cfe55d1922c); the launcher finds it by itself in a usual place (the game's folder, Downloads, Desktop, Documents and one level of subfolders), otherwise pick it with Load ROM.

Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.3-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.3-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.

Fixed: using Rewind a lot, in one race or across several, made the game crash: each rewind left behind some of the looping sounds started in the stretch it undid, still waiting to play, until the game ran out of sounds. Letting go of Rewind now releases them.

New: started without a console (from Explorer, or a Linux desktop launcher rather than a terminal), the game writes its log to rush2049.log in the folder its settings are in: beside the exe if you have a portable.txt there, otherwise %LOCALAPPDATA%\Rush2049Recompiled\ on Windows and ~/.config/Rush2049Recompiled/ on Linux. The run before is kept as rush2049.old.log. If the game crashes, the log ends with where it crashed (the Windows zip now carries Rush2049Recompiled.pdb so that trace names the game's own functions, which is why it is twice the size). Please open an issue with rush2049.log attached (or rush2049.old.log, if you have started the game again since) and say what you were doing. --show-console still shows the log live instead.

The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.

San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.2: the first Linux build, beside the Windows one. The game itself is the same as v0.1.1.

Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.2-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.

Linux (new, x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.2-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder. It needs glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 or later), a Vulkan driver, and GTK 3 and FreeType, which desktop distributions have; it brings its own SDL2. Settings and saves go in ~/.config/Rush2049Recompiled/. It has been run only with a software Vulkan driver, where it boots and plays the title screen and attract races; nobody has played it on a Linux GPU or a Steam Deck yet, so reports are welcome.

The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.

San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled for Windows, v0.1.1: the game no longer opens a console window behind it. Nothing else changes from v0.1.0.

Made with AI. Almost all of the code was written by AI agents (Claude), directed and play-tested by a person.

To play: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.1-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. You need your own ROM of the US release (.z64, SHA-1 3f99351d7bb61656614bdb2aa1a90cfe55d1922c); the launcher finds it by itself in a usual place (that folder, Downloads, Desktop, Documents and one level of subfolders), otherwise pick it with Load ROM. Settings and saves carry over from v0.1.0.

Changed: only the game's window opens now. To see the log, as the console showed it, run Rush2049Recompiled.exe --show-console.

The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.

The first release of San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled for Windows: a native PC port of the N64 game made by static recompilation. It is not an emulator and contains no game data: you need your own ROM of the US release (.z64, SHA-1 3f99351d7bb61656614bdb2aa1a90cfe55d1922c).

Made with AI. Almost all of the code was written by AI agents (Claude), directed and play-tested by a person.

To play: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.0-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. The launcher finds your ROM by itself in a usual place (that folder, Downloads, Desktop, Documents and one level of subfolders); otherwise pick it with Load ROM.

What works: menus, Single Race, Circuit, Ghost Race, Stunt and Battle at full speed, all six race tracks, two- and four-player split screen, and Controller Pak saves.

Enhancements, each an option in the settings menu with an Original value that runs the game as it shipped:

  • High resolution at the window's size, with 2× MSAA
  • Hi-res menu and HUD text, and a hi-res title screen
  • 60 fps game logic, interpolated up to a high-refresh monitor's rate
  • Lower input lag
  • Widescreen 3D, HUD, split screen and menus
  • Enhanced audio: a 44.1 kHz MusyX mix with no clipping or dropouts
  • Rewind in single-player races
  • Large Controller Paks (about 1.9 MB each), and Rumble Pak
  • Keyboard and gamepad controls, rebindable

The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.
