KeepMeUp 1.4.1

Fix

  • /webcam and the Camera permission now work. The app is signed with the hardened runtime, which requires a camera entitlement that was missing, so macOS blocked the camera and never listed the app. The entitlement is now included.

After updating, open Settings → Commands and click Grant next to Camera (or send /webcam) to get the macOS prompt. KeepMeUp then appears in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.

The app is not notarized, so open it the first time with right-click → Open.

New

  • Grant access buttons at the top of the Commands tab for Screen Recording, Camera, Automation and Files. Each one prompts and adds KeepMeUp to the right list in System Settings → Privacy & Security, and shows a green check once allowed.
  • The app is now a native Apple Silicon build, so it never involves Rosetta. Intel users can still build a universal app with UNIVERSAL=1 ./scripts/build-app.sh.
  • The menu header stays on one line and names the app when you use /caffeinate.

The app is not notarized, so open it the first time with right-click → Open.

  • Once your Telegram bot is connected, the Telegram tab tells you that you can turn each command on or off in the Commands tab, with an Open Commands button that takes you there.

The app is not notarized, so open it the first time with right-click → Open.

  • When you open KeepMeUp, a small tip appears under its menu bar icon saying it's running there. It also appears if you open the app again while it's already running, and closes on its own after a few seconds.

The app is not notarized, so open it the first time with right-click → Open.

New Telegram commands

  • Sound and media: /volume, /mute, /play, /next, /previous
  • Display: /brightness
  • System: /say, /notify, /clip (clipboard)
  • Network: /wifi, /ip
  • Keep awake: /caffeinate — stays awake only while that app runs
  • Camera: /webcam (off by default; the green camera light turns on)
  • Files: /upload — send the bot a file and it's saved to Downloads
  • Automation: /schedule, /schedules, /unschedule — repeat actions daily

Alerts

Optional Telegram messages for low battery, charger plugged/unplugged and "Mac is online" after launch. Turn them on in Settings → General.

Notes

Remote control stays limited to the chats you approve, and the powerful commands (camera, screen, files, clipboard, shell) remain off until you turn them on with your password or Touch ID. Use at your own responsibility.

The app is not notarized, so open it the first time with right-click → Open.

New bot commands

  • /desk, /docs and /dl search Desktop, Documents and Downloads separately. Without a name, they list the newest items in that folder.
  • /recent [days] lists files you opened recently, like Finder's Recents.
  • File lists show the name, folder and age, with tappable /get_N and /openfile_N links.

These are off by default. Turn them on in Settings → Commands (asks for your password or Touch ID).

Fixes

  • Screen Recording, Automation and other permissions now survive updates. The app is now signed with a stable certificate, so macOS no longer treats each update as a new app.

After installing this update, turn KeepMeUp's permissions on one last time. From now on they stay.

Security

  • Updates are now verified with a release signature (Ed25519). The app only installs a release whose KeepMeUp.zip.sig matches the key built into it.
  • The update's code signature is checked, and macOS's download checks are left in place.
  • The bot token file is written with owner-only permissions, and moving it out of the Keychain only counts as done once it succeeds.

What's new

  • Redesigned menu with glass cards on macOS 26 and later
  • Built-in updater that checks GitHub releases, installs the update and relaunches
  • Telegram: guided setup, chat cards with name, username and type, and support for groups
  • Telegram: turn any command on or off in Settings → Commands; sensitive ones ask for your password or Touch ID
  • New bot commands: /desktop, /show, /apps, /open, /quit (tap /open_N or /quit_N), /terminal, /term, /run, /find, /get, /openfile
