OpenCode 2.1.4 — macOS 12 / Core 2 Duo

@amstel8 amstel8 released this 25 Oct 00:32

OpenCode 2.1.4 for Intel Macs on macOS 12 Monterey without AVX, tested on Core 2 Duo T9900 and Xeon X5690.

Upstream baseline: v2.1.4, commit 68bc26b7da1990ce10ffecfbc1e09eb13aa5d824.

Retained compatibility

  • The same checksum-pinned Penryn-compatible Bun 1.4.4-canary.1+6c1eb067e runtime as the previous legacy release. This does not replace the runtime with upstream's stock Bun 1.4.4.
  • Directory-plugin fallback for Bun resolution errors, authenticated /api/status compatibility alias, and a bounded 30-second location-plugin activation wait.
  • Signed executable, bundled terminal UI and API. The embedded web UI is omitted. Preserve OPENCODE_DISABLE_AUTOUPDATE=true so an upstream executable does not replace this runtime.

Process lifetime investigation

Upstream 2.1.4 includes fixes preventing duplicate initial MCP starts and stopping MCP servers in parallel during shutdown. T3 0.1.2 normally retains idle provider sessions for up to 30 minutes; its shared OpenCode server then has a further 30-second idle timeout after its last borrower leaves. Active background tasks can extend retention.

On each tested Mac, an isolated local model completed a request, /api/session/active became empty, the server consumed approximately 0.3–0.4 CPU seconds during 15 seconds of idle observation, and SIGTERM stopped it within the 12-second observation limit. The reported intermittent sustained high CPU condition was not reproduced; this release does not claim to fix that unobserved condition.

Verification

  • Lint: zero errors. bun run check reached a typecheck option unsupported by the pinned compatibility runtime (bun check --no-script); upstream's existing CI alternative, bun turbo typecheck:tsc --concurrency=3, passed all 34 tasks. The upstream pre-push hook assumes stock Bun; it was bypassed only after these manual checks passed.
  • 20 focused server, plugin and MCP tests passed.
  • Strict ad-hoc signature verification, --version and --help passed on the target MacBook.
  • TUI rendered on the T9900 with an explicitly connected isolated test server.
  • Authenticated model discovery using the MacBook's real provider configuration returned all 10 models. Their variant metadata matched T3's catalog, including the custom Qwen model and Big Pickle's empty variants.
  • Installed atomically on both tested Macs, retaining the previous executable for rollback. Refreshed provider status through T3 on the MacBook: OpenCode 2.1.4, ready, 10 models.

Install

Download the archive and outer SHA256SUMS, then:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf opencode-2.1.4-darwin-x64-penryn.tar.gz
cd opencode-2.1.4-darwin-x64-penryn
shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS

Follow NON_AVX.md for atomic installation, rollback, runtime provenance and update instructions. Restart existing clients/servers and refresh OpenCode provider status in T3 after upgrading. Existing processes keep their old executable until restarted.

The executable is signed ad hoc, not notarized. The custom runtime remains an external prerequisite with the source-provenance limitation documented in NON_AVX.md. Other Core 2 Duo models have not all been tested.

OpenCode 2.1.2 Legacy CPU — macOS 12 x64 / Core 2 Duo

Choose a tag to compare

@amstel8 amstel8 released this 22 Oct 11:45

OpenCode 2.1.2 for older Intel Macs, built with a Penryn-compatible Bun runtime.

Platform and verification

  • macOS 12 Monterey, Intel x86_64. Tested on Core 2 Duo T9900 and Xeon X5690, without AVX/AVX2. Other Core 2 Duo models have not all been tested.
  • The CLI version/help, ad-hoc signature, terminal UI and authenticated API/model discovery were checked on the target machines. T3's catalog was compared with OpenCode for all 11 configured models, including a custom provider.
  • The executable in this archive is the same binary installed on both test Macs: SHA-256 22c5abe55a7d80abbc220a9509918e412c82c31a125c053afd9bdba3757afef7.
  • Terminal UI and API are included; the embedded web UI is omitted. This release does not include Windows, Linux or Apple Silicon builds.

Compatibility patches

  • Build target selection respects baseline-only requests.
  • Bun module resolution errors can reach the directory plugin's index fallback even when they are not JavaScript Error instances.
  • Authenticated GET /api/status remains available as an alias of /api/info for older clients.
  • Location plugin activation gets a bounded 30-second wait, allowing slow cold catalog discovery on T9900 instead of an early HTTP 503.

Source starts at upstream v2.1.2 (a517687fde), with compatibility changes in df06d79430. The program still reports version 2.1.2; legacy.1 identifies this fork's first packaged release.

Download and install

Download opencode-2.1.2-darwin-x64-penryn.tar.gz and SHA256SUMS:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf opencode-2.1.2-darwin-x64-penryn.tar.gz
cd opencode-2.1.2-darwin-x64-penryn
shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS

Follow the included README to install the executable and keep a rollback copy. Persist OPENCODE_DISABLE_AUTOUPDATE=true so an official update cannot replace the compatible runtime. Restart clients after installation. The executable is signed ad hoc and is not notarized.

For T3 Code, use T3 Code Legacy 0.1.1-2 or newer and refresh OpenCode provider status. That release fixes cached, unsupported model variants such as Big Pickle's stale medium option.

Runtime provenance

Built with the external patched Bun 1.4.4-canary.1+6c1eb067e, SHA-256 b88430d95e893b42b46a00f1087ed9886947dcb00febf4236d62212969d65ab3. The original local Bun/JSC build tree is no longer available, so this repository does not yet contain the patches required to reproduce that runtime. Stock Bun is not a compatible substitute. The archive includes the OpenCode license and upstream Bun dependency notices.

See NON_AVX.md for the current build recipe and its prerequisite. Maintained independently from the upstream OpenCode team.
