andr36oid SD Flasher v0.4.0

Writing a card that already has several partitions now works on Windows.

  • Fixed the "access denied" error on Windows when writing a card that already holds multiple partitions, such as an old Android install or an ArkOS or dArkOS card. The flasher now takes the whole disk offline for the write, so Windows can no longer keep one of the card's partitions mounted and block the write.
  • Fixed the same permission error when copying hotfixes right after a fresh install, when the new Android partitions had just reappeared in Windows.

If a card reader does not allow taking the disk offline, the flasher falls back to the previous per-partition method, so single-partition cards are unaffected.

the flasher now shows how much space its cache is using, with a button to clear it, so unpacked images and downloads don't quietly pile up between runs. if the cache holds a recovery backup you could still restore from, it asks first before deleting that.

on windows the portable build keeps all of this next to the .exe instead of in your user profile, so everything it writes stays in one folder you can move or delete, with nothing left behind.

you can now install hotfixes straight from the flasher. it checks the andr36oid hotfixes list for your card's exact build, ticks the bug fixes for you, leaves the optional extras unticked, and copies what you pick to the card. you can do it on its own or as a step right after flashing, and the card applies them the next time the console starts.

recovery is safer now. before it restores a backup it confirms the card is the same one the backup was taken from, by checking the parts of the card the backup kept. if it can't be sure, it stops before writing anything, so a backup can't land on the wrong card and overwrite it.

flashing over USB on android also copes better with readers that stall or hand back short transfers, instead of getting stuck or writing part of the data.

it also tidies its own cache on startup, clearing the leftover unpacked images and half-finished downloads from past runs while keeping your recovery backups and anything downloaded for reuse.

on windows, writing to an sd card that already had several partitions could fail with a generic "access denied". the flasher now finds and unmounts every partition on the card first, including the linux and android ones that windows only sees as raw and used to miss, so you no longer have to wipe or reformat the card (with rufus or anything else) before flashing.

fixes from the 2026-10-24 release feedback. macs now see cards in the built-in SD reader, not just USB readers (apple silicon and intel). on windows, card listing no longer fails with "exit status 1" when one drive misbehaves, and it tells you the real reason if it still can't list. and if you launch the flasher from inside the downloaded zip without unpacking it, it now asks you to unpack it first, instead of failing later with a missing helper.

goes with andr36oid release candidate 3, like v0.3.2. android app fixes from beta testing: an unpacked .img can now be picked as the image, and the "install a new card / update" choice no longer keeps replaying its tap animation

goes with andr36oid release candidate 3. made for andr36oid releases from 22 October 2026 on, and refuses older ones. use flasher v0.3.1 if you need to install an older release. the console names and which profiles are experimental now come from a small file on BOOT instead of a list inside the flasher, so a new console shows up without a new flasher. the G80C / G80CA / G80D with panel 8 and the R36S V12 clone, variant 1 with panel 8, are no longer experimental. updating a card keeps the hotfixes in its hotfix folder on BOOT

made for andr36oid rc2.5 and newer, whose system partition is compressed EROFS. it reads what it needs from andr36oid-build.txt on BOOT instead of opening system, so the ext4 reader is gone. images from before 18 October 2026 are no longer listed, and an older file you pick yourself is refused with its date. use flasher v0.2.1 if you need to install an older release
