COOLFluiD v3.0.3 (incl. stable version of COCONUT)
This COOLFluiD release includes:
- COolfluid COrona uNstrUcTured (COCONUT): this includes the first stable version, including the last 8 years of developments by the team at KU Leuven's CmPA under FWO, AFOSR, ESA Prodex and EU (Horizon 2020 and ERC Advanced) funding. Several cases for regression testing are featured, as listed in plugins/MHD/testcases/CMakeLists.txt:
COCONUT/Dipole/map_TEST.CFcase
COCONUT/Dipole/map_TEST_fullMHD.CFcase
COCONUT/Dipole_Shifted/minimum_original_general.CFcase
COCONUT/Dipole_Shifted PCASE minimum_2Rs.CFcase
COCONUT/Dipole_WTD/map_TEST_WTD.CFcase
COCONUT/Eclipse/map_unsteadyeclipse_fullMHD_TEST.CFcase
COCONUT/Map/map_TEST.CFcase
COCONUT/Map/map_TEST_DecE_fullMHD.CFcase
COCONUT/Map/map_TEST_fullMHD.CFcase
COCONUT/MapCR2296/map_steady.CFcase
COCONUT/MapCR2296/map_steady_fullMHD.CFcase
COCONUT/MapCR2296/map_unsteadyeclipse_fullMHD.CFcase
COCONUT/MHDRotor/MHDRotor_DecE.CFcase
COCONUT/MHDRotor/MHDRotor_FullE.CFcase
COCONUT/OrszagTang/OZ_DecE.CFcase
COCONUT/OrszagTang/OZ_FullE.CFcase
COCONUT/Quadrupole/map_TEST.CFcase
The corresponding reference residuals are set with the code using PETSc 3.24.3.
Key features include: Finite Volume method, single-fluid MHD model, multiple versions of HLL scheme, heating source terms and thermal conduction, implicit steady and time-dependent solver, data-driven (from magnetograms), energy decomposition for increased stability, baseline Wave Turbulence-Driven (WTD) model, baseline multi-fluid model (2- and 3-fluid) for solar corona.
This version of the single-fluid MHD code has been successfully coupled to EUHFORIA, ICARUS and the novel COOLFluiD-FR (by Rayan Dhib) heliospheric solvers and can already simulate CME propagation.

-
COolfluid for Mhd EnTry (COMET): this includes developments funded by the EIC Pathfinder MHD Enhanced Entry System for Space Transportation (MEESST) project. Cases for regression testing still to be uploaded or properly defined.
-
COOLFluiD-FR: many developments resulting from FWO funding (SB doctoral fellowships and one running project). Cases for regression testing still to be uploaded or properly defined.
-
Porting to PETSc v3.24.3: this solves a performance "bug" (COCONUT running >4X slower in serial and parallel) affecting v3.20.3.
