@andymcca andymcca released this 03 Oct 11:41

New release with the following changes (includes those from the previous pre-release) -

  • Screen tearing addressed - emulator now uses double buffering to align better with PAL or NTSC refresh rates to minimise vertical tearing issues in the last version.
  • Maximised available memory to allow up to and including 16MB ROMs to be fully loaded into RAM
  • Added Dynarec Mode selector
    • Partial + Reuse (this is the default and is the standard TempGBA-Mod mode)
    • Partial + No Reuse (this is an earlier TempGBA mode)
    • Full Flush (this is the mode that gpsp/gpsp-kai use - slower in most cases but can be a bit quicker if the game doesn't do a lot of SMC)
  • Fixed memory heap so that loading multiple ROMs should preserve available ROM cache

Also included from the 25/09 Pre-release -

  • Fixed (hopefully) loading from Memory Card
  • Implemented assembly video_blend_mips to speed up alpha-blending operations
  • Added HBLANK IRQ option -
    • TEMPGBA is standard behaviour, HBLANK IRQ runs on all 228 scanlines
    • GPSP-KAI runs HBLANK IRQ on scanlines 0-160
    • OFF only runs on scanline 0
    • GPSP-KAI and OFF options can be a nice speed-up - GPSP-KAI for games that use these but don't need them on for off-screen effects (e.g. Advance Wars DOES need these, so will need the TEMPGBA option, but Mario Tennis/Mario Golf/Pokemon games are ok with the GPSP-KAI option), and OFF if you don't mind losing a few gfx effects for performance (be aware OFF may break some games tho).
  • Removed redundant charsets.c (not even used) saving 600KB
  • Packed and Stripped the ELF so overall app size reduced by over 90% (now 380KB vs 4MB first release!)
  • Added support for MMCE and MX4SIO (TempGBA_MMCE.elf)
    • I don't have these and am unable to test, so have added a separate ELF for this (TempGBA_MMCE.elf). MMCE and MX4SIO both use the memory-card SIO2 port, so only one can be active. The first one you open (or boot from) wins; the other stays empty for that session.
    • StonedEdge on Reddit has been helping me test this branch, I think it is now working albeit performance is not much better via these methods than USB unfortunately, especially on PSP Slims with the 'Deckard' IOP emulation, which drags throughput down a fair bit.
    • I have at least tried to improve paging behaviour on this branch to compensate and squeezed available RAM so you should generally be ok to get ROMs up to and including 16MB loaded fully into RAM (no paging at all). It's just 32MB ROMs need to page and there doesn't appear to be a great way to do that from USB/MMCE/MX4SIO without introducing frame/sound lag when it happens.

I have included the game_config.txt file with this release. You should preferably add a genuine gba_bios.bin BIOS file to the same folder for best performance.

  • Removed redundant charsets.c (not even used) saving 600KB
  • Packed and Stripped the ELF so overall app size reduced by over 90% (now 350KB vs 4MB first release!)

First Release of my fork.

All changes for this first release and other information are described in the repo Readme file.

Put everything in the same folder as the ELF file and run it on your Modded PS2 using LaunchElf or similar.

You are MUCH better off playing ROMs from an installed Hard Drive if you can rather than USB, which is very slow especially if the ROM is 16MB or over as this won't fit in the PS2's RAM (only 32MB total!) and will need to be paged from the device as required.

Have fun!
