Gaming Setup

Linux gaming is prioritized in this configuration through specific kernel and software integrations to ensure a smooth, high frame-rate experience.

Proton CachyOS

Steam relies on a custom Proton build tailored by the CachyOS team (proton-cachyos_x86_64_v3). Like the kernel, this custom Proton runtime is compiled with advanced CPU instruction sets (x86_64-v3 / AVX2) and compiler optimizations. This translates into noticeable performance benefits, less stuttering, and higher FPS in Windows games running via compatibility layers.

Integration

  • The custom Proton versions are managed declaratively alongside Steam in the configuration.
  • Wayland-native gaming is fully supported under the Niri window manager, with xwayland-satellite ensuring full compatibility for X11-only legacy games.
