v0.3.51

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 17:54

whyline 0.3.51

Inspect the files that matter during a Relay run without leaving the Whyline
console.

What's changed

  • Three Relay file views. The Files pane now offers Working file, Plan,
and All files so you can move between the agent's current output, the active
plan, and the repository without opening another application.
  • Live, read-only plan view. Whyline follows the active Relay plan, reloads
it when it changes, preserves your scroll position during updates, and keeps
working-file updates from replacing what you are reading.
  • Repository browser. All files presents an expandable tree, hides .git
and paths that escape the repository, opens text files in the console, and
reports binary or deleted files safely.
  • Persistent navigation. Returning to All files restores the same expanded
tree, while returning to Working file shows the newest agent output.
  • Safer error display. File and permission errors are rendered as literal
text, so strings such as [Errno 13] cannot be interpreted as console markup.

Upgrading

uv tool install whyline@0.3.51 --force

Open whyline console, choose Relay, and press Files to use the new views.

v0.3.50

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 11:35

whyline 0.3.50

Keep Grok relay runs moving when a headless permission denial returns a
pretty-printed cancellation record.

What's changed

  • Requires whyline-relay 0.2.39 or later. That release recognises Grok's
real permission required: log shape when the following JSON spans several
lines, recovers the resumable session ID, and uses the relay's existing
    cancelled-turn retry path.
  • Prevents uv sync from restoring the affected relay. Both Whyline's
runtime and development dependency floors now require `whyline-relay

=0.2.39,<0.3`, and the lockfile resolves to 0.2.39.

  • No Whyline application behavior changed. The parser fix lives in
whyline-relay; this patch aligns Whyline's packaging with that fixed release.

Upgrading

uv tool install whyline@0.3.50 --force

Restart any open Whyline console after upgrading so it imports the new relay
package, then resume the paused run from Relay mode.

v0.3.49

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 06:06

whyline 0.3.49

Send an idea to whyline by email and carry it through the same confirmed
workflow as Telegram.

What's changed

  • Capture ideas by email. Send a message with the subject idea (or no
subject) from an allowed address. The message body becomes the idea, and
optional key: value lines apply brainstorm settings.
  • Authenticate every sender. Whyline accepts mail only from configured
addresses whose authentication results show a DKIM or SPF pass. Duplicate
messages are ignored using their Message-ID.
  • Confirm actions by reply. Reply with the six-character code whyline
sends to confirm each step. Codes are tied to the current idea revision, so
stale or incorrect codes cannot start work.
  • Receive finished documents as attachments. Word and PDF outputs are
attached to the reply, and ideas captured by email also appear in Telegram
when an allowed chat is configured.
  • Manage email access from the CLI or console. Use whyline idea email allow|deny|list, or the Email section of the console's Inbox screen, to
    maintain the same allowed-sender list.

Needs whyline-relay 0.2.38.

Upgrading

uv tool install whyline@0.3.49

v0.3.48

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 19:55

whyline 0.3.48

Take an idea from your phone to a reviewed plan and a running relay.

What's changed

  • Create a spec and plan from Telegram. After a brainstorm, choose the
repository and its saved Set up (preselected by default). Auto drafts the
spec and implementation plan, asks planner questions in Telegram, and sends
both documents back as Word and PDF.
  • Start only after a final confirmation. Start shows the repository,
agents, and timeout one last time. After you confirm, whyline reruns its
preflight and launches the relay only when those checks pass. Release tasks
    remain yours.
  • Control a run from its card. Status reports the current task, stage,
round, agent, elapsed time, and redacted recent log lines. A pause presents
Resolve's relevant choices as buttons; Stop is one confirmed tap. Every tap
is acknowledged immediately and followed by its result.
  • One-command Telegram setup. whyline idea telegram setup configures the
bot, chats, agents, assistant, document formats, repositories, and service.
The same settings are available in the console's new Inbox screen under
    Agents mode.
  • Manage ideas in the console. The new Ideas screen lists ideas and
scores and can brainstorm, refine, drop, reopen, and export them. The console
also detects a newer whyline release and can update itself with one click.
  • Honest diagnostics. whyline idea doctor checks the Telegram token,
allowed chats, service, webhooks, and macOS PDF conversion. Telegram errors
appear in whyline idea service status instead of looking like silence, and
docs/idea-inbox.md covers both new and existing bot owners.
  • Responsive, resilient background work. Cards expose only actions that
make sense for their state, name the agent that started, and give an expected
duration. Whyline keeps the Mac awake during scoring and brainstorming,
restarts jobs interrupted by sleep or shutdown, reports how long it was
offline, and makes clear in the bot profile that replies require the Mac to
    be on.
  • Real PDF reports on macOS. Brainstorms and plans use the native document
conversion path, with a sample conversion included in idea doctor.

Needs whyline-relay 0.2.38.

uv tool install whyline@0.3.48

v0.3.47

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 06:23

whyline 0.3.47

Send an idea to your Telegram bot and get a brainstorm back.

What's changed

  • Ideas from Telegram. Send an idea to your bot and it replies with a
card: Brainstorm, Quick score, or Cancel. Only private chats you
allow are read (whyline idea telegram allow <chat-id>); messages from any
other chat are recorded and ignored.
  • Brainstorm from your phone. By default every available agent researches
the idea in one pass. You can choose the models, passes, final writer,
backup and timeout in the same message (models: claude, codex /
passes: 2 / timeout: 30). It runs in the inbox's own workspace, never in
your repositories, and the synthesis comes back as Word and, where the Mac
    can make one, PDF.
  • A quick score is one tap away, with the full report, Refine, Drop and the
Excel workbook as buttons on the result.
  • Plain-language replies are read by an assistant (whyline idea assistant <agent> --backup <agent>) that proposes a card. Nothing changes
    until you tap Confirm.
  • Runs without a terminal. whyline idea service on runs the inbox from
the existing scheduler while you are logged in. Replies retry until they are
delivered, and a Mac that was off catches up on messages from up to about a
    day.

Needs whyline-relay 0.2.38.

v0.3.46

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Oct 12:15

whyline 0.3.46

An inbox for ideas, and a Resolve that gets you unstuck instead of in a loop.

What's changed

  • whyline idea keeps every idea. Ideas live in a local database under
~/.whyline/ideas/ and in ~/.whyline/ideas/ideas.xlsx, which is rebuilt
from that database after every change. add, list, show, refine,
drop, reopen and export manage them; doctor checks the folder, the
database, the workbook and which agents can run unattended.
  • A quick score. whyline idea score runs one read-only agent turn that
lists the sources it actually checked, rates usefulness and complexity 1-9,
and gives a YES / NO / NOT YET verdict. whyline idea agents sets the
    fallback order.
  • Reports as Word and PDF. Reports come as Word and, where the Mac can make
one, PDF. whyline idea documents picks Word, PDF or both.
  • Resolve offers another agent. When an agent times out, Resolve offers
"Use instead" beside a longer timeout. When an agent's quota runs out
and the relay could not switch by itself, Resolve offers the other logged-in
    agents, backup chain first.
  • Ask agent shows that it is working and reads the agent's answer
correctly; it no longer reports an empty recommendation.
  • Files opens the newest changed file when you turn it on mid-run, instead
of waiting for the agent's next write.
  • Set up's Check no longer loops on its own file. Saving the Resolve choice
no longer leaves the working tree dirty.

Needs whyline-relay 0.2.38.

uv tool install whyline@latest

v0.3.45

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 21:14

whyline 0.3.45

Test plans that stay paired with the work, and safer recovery when a run stops.

What's changed

  • Plan, Brainstorm, and Auto can add a Test planner. The optional planner
writes a test plan beside the implementation plan, and the Reviewer reviews
    both together.
  • Every phase ends with a Verify task. Its scenarios automate the checks
for that phase, so the evidence travels with the plan instead of living in a
    separate checklist.
  • Manual checks gate a release. The relay waits for each required manual
check, and you pass or fail it from the console with a note recording what
    happened.
  • Failed Resume launches Resolve automatically. Recognised recovery
failures open the guided recovery flow without an extra click.
  • Resolve points to the agent's own login. When Claude, Codex, or Grok has
logged out, Resolve offers that agent's login action. A login always waits
for your click and is never started automatically.
  • Sticky failover is quota-aware. Resolve no longer recommends resetting a
role to an agent that may still be out of quota.

Needs whyline-relay 0.2.38.

v0.3.44

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Oct 11:49

whyline 0.3.44

Per-attempt timeouts you choose, and a Stop that really stops.

What's changed

  • Chat has a timeout on the bar. Pick 5, 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes, or
none. The value is captured when you press Send, so changing it mid-turn
does not touch the running attempt, and choosing it does not need Save.
  • /timeout reads and sets it. /timeout shows the current limit,
/timeout 30 or /timeout none changes it, in any mode.
  • Stop cancels the attempt in flight. In Chat and in Brainstorm, Stop
ends the running agent instead of waiting for it, and a late result from
the cancelled attempt is discarded instead of being shown.
  • Brainstorm and plan synthesis accept none. A long brainstorm can run
    without a per-attempt limit.
  • Relay Set up writes timeout_minutes, including none, and leaves it
alone when you did not change it.
  • Scheduled Agents keep 1 to 240 minutes. None is not offered for
    unattended runs.
  • /help explains the per-attempt limit, including provider limits
that apply regardless of this setting.
  • Set up no longer crashes on check text with square brackets. A relay
hint such as [agents.antigravity] was read as styling and closed the
console; check results and form errors now show as plain text.

Needs whyline-relay 0.2.36.

v0.3.43

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Oct 11:57

whyline 0.3.43

See the file an agent is writing, live, next to the console.

What's changed

  • Files splits the console and follows the file being written. A Files
button in Chat, Relay, and Agents opens a read-only pane beside the
console. While a turn or a relay run is busy, the pane shows the file the
agent wrote most recently and jumps to the first line that differs from
the last commit. The pane starts hidden; turning it off keeps what it
    showed.
  • Only real writes count. Files that were already dirty when the run
started stay off the pane until they change, and a file the agent only
read never appears. Binary, very large, and non-UTF-8 files show a short
    notice instead of their bytes.
  • Earlier and Later step through this run's files. Holding an earlier
file keeps it on screen; newer writes only update the path line until you
step forward. Saving the same file again keeps your scroll position and
    says it was updated.
  • A relay task in another repository is followed there too. Its files
    are shown as repo-name:path.
  • Narrow windows stack the split. Below 120 columns the file pane sits
above the console, so the prompt and every button stay reachable at 80×24.
  • Set up and Plan explain a missing agent instead of crashing. With no
agent CLI installed, they say which agents to install and show the
doctor's agent lines, instead of raising an error.
  • Windows fixes. Closing the console during an Auto run no longer fails
when the console and the run release the same file at once.

v0.3.42

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Oct 04:49

whyline 0.3.42

Recovery and Resolve: a relay that stops for a known reason can now be
fixed with one click, or with no click at all in Auto.

What's changed

  • Auto commits the relay's own decision log and resumes. When the only
uncommitted file is .whyline/decisions.md, Auto commits it and continues
instead of stopping on the clean-tree check.
  • A missing handoff gets one constrained recovery turn. The selected
agent, then the backup chain, may only record the handoff. If it changes
anything else, moves HEAD, or leaves no new handoff, the result is reported
    to you and nothing resumes.
  • Recovery never edits task code and never skips the clean-tree check.
It resumes only after the repository preflight passes. Login, blocked,
round-cap, and release pauses still stop for you.
  • Resolve in Set up and next to Resume. A failed Check or Resume
explains each problem with its evidence and offers fixes, the recommended
one first: commit the decision log, resume and keep paused work, stash,
reset after a stray commit, reset a sticky backup switch, raise the
timeout, or switch to an agent that still has usage. Fixes that can lose
work ask you to confirm first.
  • Problems Resolve does not know go to the selected agent, read-only.
The agent, then the backup chain, explains the problem and recommends one
of the listed fixes. It cannot change anything; your click applies it.
  • Set up's Resolve select: Review or Auto. Review waits for your click.
Auto applies the recommended fix and continues, once per task and round,
except stash, reset, moving commits aside, and stopping a relay, which
    always wait for you.
  • Commits from another whyline run are not blamed on the agent. Commits
that a Brainstorm or plan run makes during a stage are diagnosed as such,
and Resolve moves them to their own branch instead of folding them into
    the task.
  • Sandbox refusals are explained, and a capped stage can be retried. The
pause card shows the refused command, and a stage that hit its visit cap
    offers Retry stage once.
