Let the production update helper clone the source checkout when REPO_DIR is missing, preserve non-git REPO_DIR contents by moving them aside, configure origin/fork remotes, and create local patch branches from fork refs before rebasing. Keep the previous production binary as a rollback backup, validate the new binary and health endpoint after restart, restore the old binary through the stack helper on startup or health failures, and delete rollback backups only after an interactive confirmation.
