Claude in Chrome browser extension not connecting to Claude Code

Description

Every call to tabs_context_mcp returns:
"Browser extension is not connected. Please ensure the Claude browser extension is installed and running."

Steps to reproduce

1. Install Claude Chrome extension
2. Log into claude.ai with same account as Claude Code
3. Run Claude Code browser automation
4. Error returned immediately

What was tried

• Verified extension is installed and active
• Both extension and Claude Code use same account (burning-heads@gmx.de)
• Restarted Chrome completely
• Retried multiple times — issue persists

Still experiencing this on macOS (Darwin 25.3.0, Chrome latest). tabs_context_mcp returns "Browser extension is not connected" consistently. Been broken for days. Any update on a fix? @anthropics/claude-code

Same issue here. macOS Sequoia, Claude Code desktop app, Chrome extension v1.0.63. Worked reliably for weeks, broke around 20 March. Extension shows connected in Chrome but tabs_context_mcp always returns not connected. Tried everything — restart Chrome, reconnect extension, switch orgs, create missing native messaging host file. Nothing works. Filed #38845 with full details.

Same issue, found the fix. Chrome had already downloaded newer extension versions (up to 1.0.64) to disk, but was still running 1.0.61. The version mismatch with the native host causes silent connection failure.

Fix: go to chrome://extensions and click Update at the top. This forces Chrome to load the latest version. claude --chrome connected immediately after.
