[BUG] Renaming the PROJECT creates the new directory and deletes old one, however the project metadata persists in .claude/projects/ #38614

Description

@kodeofkartik

Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

When I renamed the project from PROJECT1 to YELLOW, it created the new directory named yellow and deleted the old directory. However, the metadata of both the projects are visible in .claude/projects/ that shows I have 2 projects

What Should Happen?

Renaming the project should check and rename on all relevant locations.
Same for the deletion.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Create a new folder set it as project called project1. Not ask claude to rename project to project75. It will do so. But project1 will remain in .claude/projects/ and will always show as project
