Description
Prior to upgrading today, the Claude Code desktop app had a New Window option (available via the File menu and Cmd+N keyboard shortcut) that opened an independent second window/session.
After upgrading to v1.1617.0, this option is no longer present. Cmd+N now starts a new conversation within the same window, and the File menu only shows New Conversation — there is no New Window option.
Steps to reproduce
- Upgrade Claude for Mac to v1.1617.0
- Open File menu — New Window is absent
- Press
Cmd+N — starts a new conversation instead of a new window
Expected behavior
New Window opens an independent Claude Code window, allowing multiple parallel sessions.
Actual behavior
No multi-window support. Only single-window with conversation switching.
Environment
- App: Claude for Mac v1.1617.0 (8d6345)
- Claude Code CLI version: 2.1.83
- OS: macOS 24.6.0
