[BUG] Claude chat not connecting via MCP after latest Claude desktop update

What's Wrong?

Using Claude desktop on Windows with Obsidian vault stored on Google drive. Previously worked but now Claude chat in desktop does not connect via MCP. Claude Code in desktop still connects fine. Asked Claude code to diagnose and it said this Already on the latest version. Let me check the Claude Desktop app version and look for any settings that might control MCP in Chat mode.

I can see the config files look fine — the MCP server is running and working (confirmed in Code mode). The problem is specifically that Chat mode stopped connecting to it.

Resolved. The v2.1.92 update moved MCP from the config-file-only approach (claude_desktop_config.json) to the new Connectors panel in Settings. My filesystem MCP server was already listed there with all 14 tools — it just needed to be accessed via the new UI rather than the old config route.

Fix: Settings → Connectors → filesystem → Configure → ensure tools are enabled. Chat mode then picks up the MCP tools as before.

Not a bug — a UI migration that wasn't communicated in the update notes.
