Bug: Claude Desktop window content clipped on left side #49877

Description

@zoonslows

Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

The left edge of the Claude Desktop window is cut off — approximately 30–50px of content is missing from the sidebar, main chat area, and all UI elements on the left side. The right panel (Memory/Instructions/Files) renders normally. The issue affects both the home screen and inside projects/conversations.

Environment:

  • Mac: MacBook Pro 2019 (AMD Radeon Pro 5500M)
  • macOS version: [please fill in]
  • Claude Desktop: latest version, freshly reinstalled
  • Display: custom scaled resolution (displayBounds reported as 1344×840 in window-state.json)

Started: ~April 15, 2026 (two days before report)

Persists across:

  • App restarts
  • macOS restarts
  • Deleting com.anthropic.claudefordesktop.plist + killall cfprefsd
  • Clearing GPU caches (GPUCache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache)
  • Full uninstall and reinstall
  • Launching with --disable-gpu flag
  • Launching with --force-device-scale-factor=1 flag
  • Changing display scaling back to default

Does NOT affect:

  • claude.ai in browser (renders normally)
  • Any other app on the system

Screenshots attached showing the clipping in sidebar and main content area.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Claude Desktop on MacBook Pro 2019 (Intel, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M)
  2. Observe that the left ~30–50px of all window content is clipped/missing
  3. This affects the sidebar (conversation titles truncated on left), main chat area (message text truncated), and home screen (project cards truncated)
  4. The right-side panel (Memory/Instructions/Files) renders correctly
  5. The issue is persistent — it appears on every launch and does not resolve on its own

Note: This is not intermittent. Once it started (~April 15, 2026), it has been 100% reproducible on every launch. No specific user action triggered it — it appeared after a routine app update.

The same account viewed at claude.ai in Safari/Chrome renders correctly with no clipping.

Troubleshooting already attempted (none resolved it):

  1. Restarted macOS — no change
  2. Deleted ~/Library/Preferences/com.anthropic.claudefordesktop.plist + ran killall cfprefsd — no change
  3. Deleted GPU caches (GPUCache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache) from ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/ — no change
  4. Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Claude Desktop — no change
  5. Launched with --disable-gpu flag — no change
  6. Launched with --force-device-scale-factor=1 flag — no change
  7. Changed display scaling from custom back to default — no change
