Archived conversations cannot be restored from sidebar — no archive inbox UI #50042

Description

@GHnewbie2022

Summary

Once a conversation is archived, it disappears from the sidebar with no way to access or restore it through the UI. There is no "Archived" section, filter toggle, or inbox to retrieve archived conversations.

Expected behavior

Archived conversations should be accessible via a dedicated view (e.g. an "Archived" section in the sidebar, or a filter toggle), and users should be able to unarchive/restore them back to the main list.

Actual behavior

Archiving a conversation removes it from the sidebar permanently (from the user's perspective). The only workaround is manually reading the raw .jsonl files under ~/.claude/projects/.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Claude Code desktop app
  2. Right-click (or use menu) on any conversation → Archive
  3. Conversation disappears from sidebar
  4. No UI exists to find or restore it

Environment

  • Platform: macOS (darwin 24.6.0)
  • Claude Code desktop app

Suggested fix

Add an "Archived" section or filter to the sidebar so users can view and restore archived conversations. This is standard behavior in most chat/email applications (Gmail, Slack, etc.).
