[BUG] Cowork chat input not focusable in existing/older chats — works in new chats (Windows) #56663

Description

@Hemanth-Numici

Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

In Claude Desktop on Windows, the chat input field in existing Cowork tasks cannot be focused or typed into. Clicking directly on the input area does nothing — the cursor never appears in the text box. The + button in the prompt area is clickable, but the text field itself is completely unresponsive to mouse clicks and keyboard input (Tab does not move focus to it either).
Newly created Cowork tasks work fine — the input field is focusable and functional. The issue is isolated to pre-existing/older Cowork chat sessions.

What Should Happen?

Expected Behavior:
The chat input field should be focusable and accept keyboard input in all Cowork tasks, both new and existing.
Actual Behavior:
Input field in existing Cowork chats is completely unresponsive. Cannot click into it, cannot Tab into it, cannot type. Only the + attachment button in the prompt area is interactive.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Claude Desktop on Windows
  2. Navigate to the Cowork tab
  3. Open any existing Cowork task from the sidebar (not a new one)
  4. Click on the chat input field at the bottom
  5. Try to type — no cursor appears, no characters are entered
  6. Press Tab — focus does not move to the input field
  7. Create a New Task — input works normally there

Attempted Workarounds (none resolved the issue):

  • App restart
  • Full system restart
  • Ctrl+K / Ctrl+L keyboard shortcuts
  • Clicking away and back into the input
  • Switching between tasks and returning
