Description
Claude Code creates a new "Trusted device" entry (Settings → Security → Trusted devices) roughly every 8-12 hours on the same physical machine, instead of recognizing and reusing the existing trust grant. This correlates with having to log in / re-authenticate far more often than expected (multiple times per day).
Evidence
- 4 "Security alert: new trusted device added to your Claude account" emails received within a 30-hour window, all for the same device (same device name, same OS, same general location).
- 3 of the 4 alerts share the same IP address; one has a different IP, but the other three occurred on an unchanged network and still each registered as "new."
- The account's Trusted Devices list shows 4 separate entries for the same device name — 2 added on one day, 2 the next — confirming these are genuinely duplicate registrations, not a display artifact.
Expected behavior
Once a device is trusted, restarting Claude Code or starting a new session on that same machine should reuse the existing trust grant rather than creating a new one and forcing re-authentication.
Actual behavior
A new trusted-device entry (and corresponding security alert email) is created approximately every 8-12 hours on the same unchanged machine, and the user is prompted to log in again each time.
Environment
Note
This report replaces #81163, which was closed after an earlier revision inadvertently included the device hostname and IP address.
