What's Wrong?

I'm experiencing inconsistent usage limit behavior between Claude Code CLI (terminal) and the VS Code extension, despite using the same Max plan account.
Current situation:

VS Code extension shows: Claude AI usage limit reached|1760104800 (reset date: October 10, 2025)
CLI terminal (claude command) works perfectly with no usage limit issues
Both are authenticated with the same Max plan account

The extension blocks all usage while the CLI continues to function normally, which shouldn't happen since limits should be shared across all Claude products according to the documentation.

What Should Happen?

Usage limits should be consistent across all Claude Code interfaces (CLI and VS Code extension) when using the same account. If I hit the usage limit, both the terminal CLI and VS Code extension should display the same limit status. Currently, the CLI works fine while the extension is completely blocked.

No error in terminal CLI - it works normally without any limit warnings.

Steps to Reproduce

• Install Claude Code CLI (latest version) and authenticate with Max plan account
• Install Claude Code VS Code extension (version 2.0.10) from the marketplace
• Authenticate VS Code extension with the same Max plan account
• Use the VS Code extension until you see the usage limit message
• Open a terminal and run claude command
• Observe that CLI works normally while extension remains blocked

Note: I've verified both are using the same account email. I don't have any ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable set.

• Timestamp analysis: 1760104800 converts to October 10, 2025 (2 days from now), which seems like an unusually long reset period for Max plans (should be 5 hours)

• Workaround: Currently using CLI terminal exclusively as it works fine

• Attempted fixes:

• Tried rolling back to extension version 2.0.9 - same issue

• Cleared VS Code extension cache and re-authenticated - no change

• Confirmed no ANTHROPIC_API_KEY in environment variables

This appears to be a bug where the VS Code extension and CLI are tracking usage limits separately or the extension is incorrectly reporting limits. The discrepancy is particularly problematic since the VS Code extension UI is more convenient for development work.

#9046, #9138, #9048: These issues are about usage limits not resetting at the scheduled time, affecting all Claude Code interfaces (both CLI and extension).

My issue is different:

• My CLI terminal (claude command) works perfectly with no limit issues
• Both are authenticated with the same Max plan account

This appears to be a bug where the VS Code extension and CLI are tracking usage limits separately or inconsistently, which shouldn't happen according to the documentation stating limits are shared across all Claude products.
The issue is not about limits failing to reset - it's about inconsistent limit enforcement between two interfaces using the same account. I can continue working via CLI without any problems while the extension remains completely blocked.

Summary of troubleshooting steps performed:

Environment:

• OS: Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble)
• VS Code: 1.104.3 (up to date)
• Claude Code Extension: 2.0.10 (up to date)
• Issue: Extension shows Claude AI usage limit reached|1760104800 since yesterday
• Working machine: macOS with same VS Code and extension versions

Verification:

• ✅ CLI works perfectly (confirmed by active conversation via terminal)
• ✅ Account has no actual usage limits
• ✅ Extension works fine on macOS machine
• ❌ Extension fails only on Ubuntu

Troubleshooting steps performed (in order):

1. Extension cleanup:
   - Uninstalled extension via code --uninstall-extension anthropic.claude-code
   - Manually deleted extension folders: ~/.vscode/extensions/anthropic.claude-code-*
   - Deleted cached VSIX: ~/.config/Code/CachedExtensionVSIXs/anthropic.claude-code-*
2. VS Code state cleanup:
   - Backed up and deleted VS Code state database: ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/state.vscdb*
   - Deleted workspace storage: ~/.config/Code/User/workspaceStorage/f1cd279ceb61592c0defbc84b3151a41/
3. Authentication cleanup:
   - Signed out from extension via command palette (Claude: Sign Out)
   - Installed libsecret-tools to inspect keyring
   - Verified keyring was updated after sign-out
   - No Claude-related secrets found in keyring after cleanup
4. Fresh installation:
   - Reinstalled extension: code --install-extension anthropic.claude-code
   - Restarted VS Code completely
   - Signed in with fresh authentication token
5. Additional verification:
   - Searched for timestamp 1760104800 in all VS Code config files (not found)
   - Inspected workspace and global state databases (no trace of the limit)
   - Checked keyring for any stored authentication data (clean)

Result: Issue persists after all cleanup steps. Extension automatically reconnected and immediately showed the same error message.

Conclusion: The issue appears to be server-side or related to how the VS Code extension communicates with the Anthropic API on Linux systems, as the CLI uses a different endpoint and
works flawlessly.
