Slack Connector/Claude Slack App - bot_scopes_not_found when trying to create Slack canvas (canvases:write permission) #1633

Description

@halziab

Claude Desktop: 1.4758.0 (fb266c)
OSs: macOS 26.4.1, Windows 11, Windows 10
Claude Slack App: https://slack.com/marketplace/A08SF47R6P4-claude

Our team is able to use the Slack connector in Claude Desktop with the Claude plugin in Slack. Most features seem to work smoothly; we're able to send and edit messages to channels and threads, edit existing canvases, etc. However, we are unable to have Claude Desktop create canvases in Slack. It appears to be an app-manifest issue from Anthropic's Claude plugin for Slack, as canvases:write permission/scope has been approved by our admins for the plugin.

canvases:write supports both bot and user tokens as separate scopes, and the bot_scopes_not_found error indicates the Claude app didn't request the bot-scope version. This is something Anthropic needs to investigate on their side.

STR:

  1. As a Slack Workspace admin, Install the Claude App for Slack.
  2. Approve the canvases:write permission.
  3. In Claude Desktop, enable the Slack Connector.
  4. Have Claude create a new canvas in a Slack channel.
  5. Note failure.

Expected:
Approved permissions for Claude App in Slack will allow Claude to perform consented actions in Slack.

Actual:
Despite having canvases:write as an approved permission in the Claude Slack App, Claude Desktop is unable to create canvases.
