Learn about vigilant mode.

MacPad 1.4.0 is a free, native plain-text editor for macOS 14 or later, with one universal download for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Download and install

  1. Download MacPad-macOS-universal.dmg below.
  2. Open the disk image and drag MacPad into Applications.
  3. Eject the disk image, then open MacPad from Applications.

The app and disk image are Developer ID signed. Apple notarization was accepted, the notarization ticket is stapled to the DMG, and Gatekeeper verification passed. This is direct distribution, not a Mac App Store release.

What's new

  • A charcoal-and-cyan drag-to-Applications installer.
  • English and German native interface localization.
  • A fresh blank document on launch, with saved files available through Open Recent.
  • Improved New Document, New Tab, Find, Save As encoding, and Go To controls.
  • Stronger Save As conflict handling and rejection of special files that could block file opening.
  • Website, support, and privacy links in About.

Verify the download

Download the adjacent MacPad-macOS-universal.dmg.sha256 file into the same folder as the DMG, then run:

shasum -a 256 -c MacPad-macOS-universal.dmg.sha256

Expected SHA-256:

Version: 1.4.0 (16). Source: 6cb8f138def2c2a916daed90633e0e69ccb9998f.

The previous 1.3.1 release remains available. MacPad Mobile is unchanged.
