Simple Mac Fixes 0.1.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 06:39
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
  • On the newest macOS, the volume and brightness overlay now looks like the system's own: a glass bar with sixteen steps, just below the Sound or Display icon in the menu bar. Older macOS keeps the overlay you know.
  • Each press of a volume or brightness key now moves one step of sixteen, like the system does, and holding Shift moves a quarter step.

Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
  • The green button now fills the screen in Butter Paper, Zed and other apps that draw over their own title bar. Before, clicking it did nothing extra there.

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 11:15
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
  • Double-clicking a button, tab or text box at the top of a window no longer makes the window fill the screen. This mostly happened in Brave, Chrome and similar apps. Double-clicking an empty part of the bar still fills the screen as before.

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 04:35
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
  • Window previews no longer pop up while you're looking at all your open windows or one app's windows. A preview that's already open closes when either one opens.
  • Window previews keep up better as you move along the Dock, with less work behind the scenes.
  • The app does less while it sits in the background, which is easier on your battery.

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Oct 23:01
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
  • Window previews open straight away and stay up while you move up to them, even if you pass over other apps on the way.
  • Windows are shown most recent first, and the first one is picked for you. Click the app in the Dock to go to it, or scroll on the app to move between windows and bring each one forward.
  • Rest on a preview to see that window at its real size and place before you pick it.
  • Previews use the same glass as the rest of your Mac, and their window buttons look and behave like the real ones. The green button maximizes or goes full screen, the same as on the window itself.
  • Previews update after you minimize or maximize from them, and long window names stay inside their preview.
  • With the Dock on the side, previews are listed top to bottom.
  • Maximize windows works on normal window buttons again, and dragging a maximized window puts it back to its old size, even after the app restarts.
  • Maximize fits the window to the right screen when you have more than one display.
  • New: Space shortcuts are now their own switch, listed under Instant space switching with every shortcut shown.
  • Instant Dock, Instant space switching and Space shortcuts start off for new users. If you already use them, they stay on.

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 13:29
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
  • New: Window previews in the Dock. Point at an app with more than one window to see them all, even minimized and hidden ones and windows on other spaces. Click one to go to it, or close, minimize or maximize it from the preview.
  • The app's name stays up above the preview, just like the Dock shows it.
  • If your Dock hides itself, it stays up while a preview is open.
  • Clicking an app in the Dock no longer opens the windows view. Window previews replace it.
  • Option-clicking Dock folders keeps working after the Dock restarts.

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 10:38
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
  • New: Instant desktop switching. Your shortcuts for moving between desktops switch straight away, without the slide. Press Control-Option-Command and a number to jump to that desktop, or Control-Option-Command-Tab and -~ to go round them all.
  • New: Instant Dock. When the Dock is hidden, it appears as soon as you point at it. Your Dock settings go back to normal when Simple Mac Fixes quits.
  • Clicks no longer get stuck: clicking apps in the Dock or windows elsewhere stays responsive even when an app is busy.

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 09:20
  • Clicking a layout in the green button's menu now does what the layout shows, instead of maximizing the window.
  • Removed Steady pointer speed. You can still turn off pointer acceleration in System Settings › Mouse.

  • Cut and paste files now works: press Command-X, then Command-V to move files to another folder.
  • All settings are now in one Settings window. The menu bar icon opens Settings or quits, and you can hide the icon. Open the app again to get back to Settings.
  • Mouse wheels now move the page the same amount for each click.
  • New: Steady pointer speed. The pointer moves the same distance however fast you move the mouse.
  • Clearer descriptions for every setting.

First release of Simple Mac Fixes: one menu-bar app with a switch for each fix.

  • Cut and paste files in Finder with ⌘X and ⌘V.
  • Traditional scrolling for wheel mice; trackpads and the Magic Mouse keep your System Settings direction.
  • Maximize windows with the green button or a title-bar double-click, drag the title bar to restore, and Option-click the green button for full screen.
  • Click a Dock app with more than one window to see them in App Exposé; Option-click a Dock folder to open it in Finder.
  • Volume and brightness keys for audio interfaces, USB DACs and external monitors.

Replaces Macsimize, Dockmint and Simple Mac Keyboard Control, which quit automatically while Simple Mac Fixes runs. Overlapping utilities such as LinearMouse, Mos and DockDoor quit too while the matching fix is on.
