Android 9: Side menu and file tree unresponsive after initialization

After the project initializes, the entire side menu and file tree are unresponsive. This user has multiple devices with different Andriod versions, but only experiences this problem on 9 (please see video). Their specs are:
OPPO A5 with 6 GB memory (visible in beginning of video)
