Nehir 0.6.0 is almost here — sticky windows, a smarter workspace bar, and smoother multi-monitor setup (try the RC)

Nehir 0.6.0 is close — final testing is underway on release candidates now, with a stable build coming soon. This release focuses on keeping the right windows visible, making the workspace bar a real control surface, and taking the friction out of multi-monitor setups.

Highlights

Sticky windows (experimental). Mark a window as Sticky and it stays visible across workspace changes — ideal for Picture-in-Picture, video calls, and reference windows. PiP windows are sticky out of the box, and you can toggle any window from the command palette, a hotkey, App Rules, or the workspace bar. (Native/helper PiP surfaces on some browsers are still indistinguishable from menus or dialogs, so #108 stays open for that edge case.)

Workspace bar quick actions. Right-click window icons, the scratchpad, or workspace labels for quick actions, and Shift-click a workspace pill to send the focused window there. You can also show other displays' workspaces in the bar: click one to switch that display, or Shift-click to move the focused window across.

Menus and dialogs stay put. Popovers, helper windows, browser suggestions, and app dialogs — including the Thunderbird and Firefox confirmation prompts raised in #142 — no longer tile into your layout or steal focus.

A setup that travels with you. A new opt-in mode in Settings → Monitors keeps apps, workspaces, and per-monitor settings tied to screen position when you move between desks and docks. The new experimental Dock Shield hides the strip a left- or right-side Dock can leave behind.

Focus that keeps up. Focus Previous Window now reaches across workspaces and monitors to the window you actually used last, and focus-follows-mouse works alongside overlay tools like Borders, a fixed Dock, and context menus.

Smoother, more predictable movement. Trackpad workspace swipes work even when the focused app captures the gesture — including while screen sharing — and the new Reveal Style setting plus per-workspace Viewport Scroll Lock put you in charge of when the viewport moves.

A sharper command palette. Searches fall back to other result types instead of dead-ending, and a new "Create App Rule for Focused Window" command drafts a rule from the window you're on — including the new Ignore option to leave an app out of tiling entirely.

Try the release candidate now

Grab the latest pre-release build from the releases page (look for the newest v0.6.0-rc.* tag) and try it against your real setup. If something's off, a report now is worth more than one after 0.6.0 ships — file it here or open an issue.

The Homebrew cask (brew install --cask nehir) still points at 0.5.1 until the stable release is tagged; we'll post again once that's out.

I'm sorry, I still see room for improvement to stabilize before final release. But my pace is not so fast as previous.
I had to made a step back and make my setup a bit more predictable. I hope to make release soon anyway.

In my personal opinion, the latest Release Candidate seems to have improved Nehir's stability. I'll try to do more thorough testing this weekend based on my personal workflow, although I have a policy of spending as little time as possible in front of my computer on weekends.

I know there's something I've encountered that isn't quite right, but I can't recall exactly what it is. What I did notice is that if I close and reopen Nehir, the Dock doesn't appear until I use a specific key combination, which is odd.

Thank you for your hard work, and I understand that everyone has their own pace of life and priorities.

@Guria I have been using various tiling managers but have come back to Nehir and must say I am impressed! You have done amazing work and the performance and memory footprint is significantly better than I expected. Will use it for my daily driver for a few days.
