OpenDisplay 0.1.0 — developer preview
First public developer preview of OpenDisplay — safe, predictable multi-display management for macOS, built for Apple Silicon.
Install
- Download
OpenDisplay.zipbelow, unzip it, and move OpenDisplay.app to/Applications. - Open it. The build is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it launches with no Gatekeeper warning.
Requirements: an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later — developed and verified on macOS 26. OpenDisplay runs as a menu-bar item (no Dock icon); click the display glyph in the menu bar.
Prefer to build it yourself? See Building the macOS app in the README.
Highlights
- Unified brightness — built-in (DisplayServices), external (DDC/CI), and a universal software-gamma fallback
- Hardware controls over DDC/CI — contrast, volume, input source, colour preset
- Per-display ICC colour profiles (public ColorSync), resolution / refresh / HiDPI, mirroring
- Safe logical disconnect / reconnect — always-one-display-active guarantee + independent recovery (menu, ⌃⌥⌘R hotkey, separate rescue app)
- Scenes, Black Out, software dimming
opendisplayCLI + Shortcuts/Siri intents driving the same audited, safety-checked path- Labs: opt-in experimental display rotation (off by default, excluded from the public-API build)
Tuned for Apple Silicon: slow I/O (DDC/CI, private SPI, ColorSync) runs off the main thread. See the CHANGELOG for the full list.
