System Voice Memos 0.10.2

This release includes the Core Audio tap work originally prepared for 0.10.1, plus new recording controls, toolbar behavior, and interface polish.

What’s New

  • Core Audio system capture
    System audio can now be captured through a Core Audio tap on macOS 14.2 and later, avoiding the screen-sharing UI and Screen Recording permission for the default recording path.

  • Legacy capture moved to Settings
    The older ScreenCaptureKit-based engine now lives in Settings as Use Legacy Screen Sharing Engine. The app warns that this path may slow the screen when ScreenCaptureKit is active in multiple apps or on lower-end Apple computers.

  • Separate microphone tracks
    Microphone audio can be recorded as its own track when using the legacy engine, so mic and system audio can stay separate.

  • Track-aware playback and export
    Recordings with microphone audio can play Together, System, or Mic, and exports can be mixed or track-specific.

  • Floating toolbar controls
    The recording toolbar now has its own Settings pane, can be restored from the app menu, and can automatically reappear when the main window is brought back during recording.

  • Cleaner recording UI
    The floating toolbar has softer edges, the no-selection detail state looks intentional, and the empty detail icon now uses a waveform instead of a music note.

  • What’s New and Help updates
    The app now shows a per-version What’s New sheet after updates and includes refreshed Apple Help pages for recording, playback, folders, exports, toolbar settings, and troubleshooting.
