Getting Started with Auto Legality Mod
This guide demonstrates the simplest ways to use Auto Legality Mod (ALM) to generate legal Pokémon using Showdown sets. Showdown sets are used by Pokémon Showdown to communicate basic competitive information about a Pokémon.
This is the easiest and recommended method to use ALM.
-
Navigate to the Pokémon Showdown Teambuilder page.

-
Create a "New Team" and set the format to "Ubers".

-
Click on "Add Pokémon" and start building your sets. Click on "Validate" afterwards to ensure that your Pokémon are legal.

-
Click on "Import/Export" and copy the sets you want to import into ALM.

-
There are several ways to import a Showdown set into ALM. If you are importing only one Pokémon, it will be added to the active Pokémon panel on the left. If you are importing multiple sets at once, they will be added to the active box.
-
Click on
Tools > Auto Legality Mod > Import with Auto-Legality Mod. You can import multiple sets at once if they are all copied to clipboard. As you can see in the image below,Ctrl + Iis a shortcut.
-
If you do not have anything copied to clipboard, using either of the above methods will ask you to select a file from your computer. This file should be a text file listing multiple consecutive sets. You can also trigger this by holding
Shiftwhile clickingImport with Auto-Legality Mod. -
You can generate Pokémon from a PokePaste or Pastebin URL. Copy the URL to clipboard and use
Tools > Auto Legality Mod > Gen from URLinstead.
-
This option is more difficult to use than Importing Showdown Sets. It looks at the basic information entered for the active Pokémon in the left sidebar and then fills in extra information to make it legal. This option can be found via Tools > Auto Legality Mod > Legalize Active Pokémon. The characteristics that must be legal before you start are the same as those for Importing Showdown Sets.

Automatic Matching Pokeballs: A custom pokéball will be applied for each pokémon imported, based on the color data of said pokémon. This will work even on shiny pokemon.
-
Automatic Markings: Markings will be applied wherever possible for the Pokemon. These markings are based on IVs and do not take hypertraining into account.
