simpleVoiceover v1.3.0
simpleVoiceover 1.3.0 adds flexible Linux packaging, live audio-device selection, multistream video imports, and more reliable editing and playback.
Changes
- Select input and output devices in Settings, including System Default. Linux follows system defaults while the application is running and handles device removal and reconnection.
- Import H.264 MP4 and Matroska (MKV). Every audio stream gets its own track above the voice track, retaining stream order, language and starting delays. The first stream is audible initially; additional streams start muted and can be edited and exported separately.
- Improve video seeking and audio/video synchronization, cancel obsolete seek requests, and prevent preview double-click/fullscreen crashes. Linux preview avoids a second audio clock; Windows retains its original video-container path.
- Toggle magnetic snapping for clip movement and trimming. Delete tracks with a localized confirmation and restore them with Undo.
- Apply effect presets immediately, recognize modified settings as Custom Preset, and save named custom presets.
- Dim tracks excluded by Solo and identify the active Solo tracks in tooltips. Use track/project names for export filenames, clear transient messages after three seconds, and remove distracting default focus outlines.
- Add four x86_64 release formats and a deployable Linux compatibility test bench with automatic and manual modes, configurable audio/WebKit/codec presets, QEMU guests, and original procedural media.
Downloads and requirements
| Package | Requirements / recommendation |
|---|---|
| Windows EXE | x86_64 and the WebView2 Runtime. Unsigned executable. |
| Linux AppImage | glibc 2.35+, a graphical desktop and an active PulseAudio-compatible server (PulseAudio or PipeWire's PulseAudio service). WebKitGTK and the media framework are bundled. |
| Debian / Ubuntu DEB | Ubuntu 26.04 LTS recommended. glibc 2.35+, WebKitGTK 4.1 version 2.40+, and the declared GTK/audio/video/portal dependencies. Install with apt. |
| Fedora RPM | Fedora 44 recommended. System WebKitGTK 4.1 and the declared Fedora audio/video/portal dependencies. Install with dnf; H.264 uses gstreamer1-plugin-openh264 from Fedora's fedora-cisco-openh264 repository. |
These Linux binaries were built on Ubuntu 22.04 / glibc 2.35, removing the previous DEB's glibc 2.43 requirement. Recommended distributions are not hard installation restrictions: older systems may work when their dependencies are compatible, at the user's own risk. Fedora 45 is Beta as of 2026-10-10 and has not been verified. Ubuntu 26.04 is a recommendation, not a configuration exercised by the automated bench.
Check downloaded files against the attached checksums.sha256. For AppImage without FUSE, use --appimage-extract-and-run.
Validation
- 60 TypeScript tests and 51 Rust tests passed; two explicitly ignored Rust tests. Frontend build and formatting checks passed.
- The Linux bench completed 13 configurations: 476 checks passed, 19 optional codec checks skipped, no required failures. Regression comparison: zero regressions and 23 improvements. The bench's eight self-tests and lint/format checks passed.
- The project owner reported successful manual checks on Windows and an older Ubuntu release; exact OS versions were not recorded. Windows was outside the automated Linux loop.
See the verification record for measured configurations, frame/clock observations and codec limits. H.264 MP4/MKV is the primary video scope; embedded codecs such as AC-3, DTS and Opus audio are outside the current decoding scope.
The Linux test bench is included as source and can be deployed after cloning. Generated fixtures, reports, VM disks, caches and application binaries are excluded from Git.
