The AREDN core team discussed the retirement of both the existing Downloads page as well as the Supported Platform Matrix. Instead it was concluded that the AREDN Firmware Selector tool would be used on the website for folks to select and download their firmware images. And the SUPPORTED_DEVICES table would be used instead of the current Supported Platform Matrix.

With these changes in mind, this documentation PR shows the new AFS method for downloading software. It also references the SUPPORTED_DEVICES file link instead of the current Supported Platform Matrix. These changes can be viewed here.

If these changes are actually implemented during the 3.23.4.0 Stable Release process, then this doc PR should be merged BEFORE the 3.23.4.0 tag is applied to the Documentation Repository.

This will be a controversial change. I was talking to a couple of people about it this week and they had found the AFS difficult to use. I'm not sure I quite understand why as I use it exclusively now and find it much more obvious.

Maybe this documentation will help them to use AFS.

I should clarify that I'm happy with the change - just there will be forum grumbling when it happens.
