Bam 0.15.0 — Settings, default search engine, palette commands
Bam gets a Settings window, a default search engine and commands in the palette.
- Settings, Bam-style. Bam ▸ Settings… or ⌘, opens a Space-tinted settings window: playback and memory toggles, keyboard card, default search engine, per-Space names, colors and icons, extensions and About. Type “settings” into the palette to get there too. About Bam opens the same window.
- Pick your search engine. DuckDuckGo, Google or Perplexity. Plain typed text goes to the one you chose; suggestions follow it where the engine offers them.
- Commands in the palette. Settings, Manage Spaces, History, Downloads, Recently Closed, Extensions, New Little Bam Window, Toggle Sidebar, Find in Page, Picture in Picture, Print and Welcome, matched by typed name. Only a typed command title takes Return; short or keyword-only hits sit below the web search.
- Manage Spaces and Extensions wear the same wash, serif headings and pill buttons.
- Built on the 0.14.0 favicon release. Build 31.
All seventeen component suites and all ten native runtime suites pass; see VALIDATION.md.

Bam 0.14.0
Website favicons now appear in sidebar tab rows, Favorites and command-palette results. Icons retain their original colors, use a bounded cache per login profile, and load without blocking typing or tab selection. Custom saved artwork keeps priority; missing or unsupported images retain native symbols.
Includes the persistent Default-profile startup correction for 0.13.1, preserved as its own commit.
Validated with all 17 component suites and all 9 native suites against this exact archive, plus live GitHub/YouTube/Wikipedia icon checks. The app is an Apple Silicon macOS prototype, locally signed and not notarized. SVG-only/authenticated icon sources and dynamic badges are not supported.
See VALIDATION.md for evidence and limits. SHA256SUMS verifies the attached archive.
Bam 0.13.1 — extension lookup and automatic PiP performance
Two performance fixes on top of v0.13.0:
- Extension window queries use one fresh tab-surface list instead of rebuilding the full list for each tab. The 1,000-tab adapter microbenchmark fell from about 498 ms to 0.80 ms for enumeration, with order, active selection and profile ownership preserved. This is a method-level result, not total JavaScript extension-query latency.
- Automatic PiP checks for playing video before requesting a page snapshot. Video-free and paused pages avoid that compositor work; manual PiP, playback, cancellation and return retain their existing checks.
The patch preserves v0.13.0 overscroll Space creation, onboarding, command-palette/site-search and Prism/Clear features. The separate Preview icon draft is not included.
Validation: all 15 component suites and all eight native suites against the exact release archive; strict ad-hoc signature verification and 102 frozen build inputs. The archive includes Bam.app; verify the download with SHA256SUMS.
This remains an Apple Silicon macOS prototype prerelease, signed locally and not notarized. No universal performance or extension-compatibility parity is claimed.
Bam 0.13.0 — overscroll Space creation
Create Spaces the Arc way: overscroll past your last Space to fill a circled plus, then release into a sidebar creation panel with a name field, profile picker and all eight theme appearances (including Prism and Clear) live-previewing the Space gradient. Partial pulls spring back; Escape, Cancel or any Space change dismisses without creating.
All 13 component suites and 9 native runtime suites pass. See CHANGELOG.md and VALIDATION.md for details and known limitations.
Bam 0.12.0 — onboarding, Prism & Clear, palette, profiles, extensions
Merges two parallel draft lines into one release (build 26).
Onboarding and Space appearances
- Full-screen first-run onboarding: burst-icon welcome, Space color pick with live retinting, first-Space naming and symbol, optional Chrome bookmark-bar favorite import, interactive ⌘T/⌘S training, a user-initiated default-browser offer and a confetti finale. Keyboard-first, skippable, minimizable, Reduce Motion aware. Replay via Bam ▸ Welcome to Bam…; existing profiles are never re-welcomed.
- Two new Space appearances: Prism, a slowly shifting spectrum, and Clear, a translucent window over a behind-window blur that lets the desktop show through. Pick them in Manage Spaces or onboarding; they apply only by explicit choice.
Command palette, profiles and extensions
- Redesigned translucent command palette with Arc-style rows and Tab-to-search for nineteen sites, with URL-shaped text kept out of remote autocomplete.
- Named login profiles per Space (shared or separate website data) and a local-folder WebKit extension host on macOS 15.4+ (no store installs or native messaging yet).
All fourteen component suites and nine native suites passed on the tagged tree; see VALIDATION.md for scope and limits. Development prerelease, Apple Silicon, locally signed — not notarized.
Bam 0.6.0 — editable Spaces
Spaces are now editable in Bam. Open Tabs → Manage Spaces…, click the Space heading, or use the sidebar’s Spaces button.
- Create and name up to 32 Spaces, with 12 icons and six colors.
- Reorder Spaces by dragging their rows in the editor or using its arrows. Swipes, Next/Previous Space and ⌥⌘1–9 follow that order.
- Preview edits in a draft, then Save Changes or Cancel. Removing a Space moves its tabs to a destination you choose.
- Right-click a tab → Move to Space. Active tabs follow their destination; Split pairs move together while retaining their live pages.
- Stable Space IDs and a versioned session migration preserve existing tabs and selections. Spaces still share website sign-ins; separate profiles, Favorites, folders and import are future work.
All seven component and five final-package runtime suites passed, including 268 feature checks with 61 new editable-Spaces checks. The first candidate exposed a test lookup that expected only one title for a Split row; the selector was corrected and the final package passed the full rerun. Installed native checks covered draft cancellation, creation, name/icon/color editing, arrow reordering, an ordered keyboard shortcut, moving a tab and removing the test Space. Physical trackpad feel and native drag reordering were not rechecked.
The installed executable matches the tested package and passes strict signature verification. All 13 existing tabs, their URLs/pins/Space membership and the original selection/sidebar/Split state were preserved. App and profile backups were retained locally before installation.
Session format 2 is a forward migration. Older Bam/Ark builds do not understand custom Space IDs; a downgrade requires a matching older profile backup.
Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Locally signed, not notarized. Bam remains an independent browser prototype.
Bam 0.5.5 — bottom-right page confirmations
Page-command confirmation pills now appear at the bottom-right of the active page.
- Applies to Page copied and Hard refreshing… in the main page, focused Split pane, Peek, and Little Bam.
- Preserves the translucent comic outline, pop/fade animation, keyboard focus and click-through behavior.
- Keeps the approved red sticker and light pink app icon.
All seven component and five packaged runtime suites passed, including 207 feature checks with bottom-right placement and text-fit assertions across normal, compact, flipped, unflipped and resized page hosts. Installed-app checks confirmed both shortcut messages at the page’s bottom-right and their dismissal. All 13 existing tabs and the original selection/layout were retained. The installed executable matches the tested package and passes strict signature verification.
Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Locally signed, not notarized. Bam remains an independent browser prototype.
Bam 0.5.4 — new name and sticker icon
Ark is now Bam, with the approved textured red sticker and light matte pink icon.
- App and menu branding, window titles, Little Bam, the start page, package names, and documentation use Bam.
- The public repository is now aridutilh/bam; existing history and earlier releases remain intact.
- Bundle/profile identifiers remain unchanged. This rename introduces no browser-data migration.
- Build overrides now accept BAM_* names, retaining ARK_* and ORBIT_* compatibility.
All seven component suites passed. All five packaged runtime suites passed on the second run of the identical package, including 162 controller checks, 85 automatic-PiP checks and 207 feature checks. The first run stopped at a combined PiP return playback/focus assertion; its cause was not isolated and is recorded in VALIDATION.md.
Installed Bam passed strict signature and tested-executable checks. All 13 existing tabs, active page/Space, sidebar state and Split groups were retained. Native menus/About show Bam 0.5.4 (17). The existing Dock shortcut now targets Bam.app in the same position. Individual website logins were not explicitly retested.
Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Locally signed, not notarized. Bam remains an independent browser prototype.
Ark 0.5.3 — glass confirmation cards
Page confirmations now appear at the active page’s top-right in a translucent card with a subtle comic-burst silhouette.
- Native frosted glass, a fine outline and restrained system typography.
- A quick 280 ms pop with a small overshoot, followed by a quiet fade. Reduce Motion skips the pop; Reduce Transparency restores the material’s full opacity.
- The same Page copied and Hard refreshing… commands work in the main page, either focused Split pane, Peek and Little Ark.
- Narrow panes keep the complete message; repeated commands replace the previous confirmation without stealing focus or blocking clicks.
All seven component and five packaged runtime suites passed, including 207 browsing-feature checks covering placement, narrow panes, interruption and replacement. The installed app passed strict signature verification and matches the tested executable. Native checks confirmed both shortcuts show the complete card at the page’s top-right and dismiss cleanly. All 12 existing tabs and the original page/Space were retained. Broader theme checks and frame-by-frame animation timing remain unmeasured.
Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Locally signed, not notarized. Ark remains an independent prototype; this release does not claim full Arc or Yab parity.
Ark 0.5.2 — immediate Space page selection
Ark 0.5.2 removes the animation delay before a Space’s page appears.
- Clicking a Space or committing a sidebar swipe immediately selects and attaches its page while the sidebar finishes moving.
- Remove the old-page snapshot fade and queued Space requests that delayed content.
- Reuse existing WebKit pages, retaining document state; begin a never-opened page’s load immediately.
- Handle rapid reversals, cancelled previews, fresh gestures during settling, and split destinations.
All seven component and five packaged runtime suites passed, including 162 controller interaction checks. New regression checks require immediate destination attachment and verify retained document state, cancellation and split panes. Seven warm fixture switches measured 0.70 ms median / 2.01 ms maximum for synchronous host attachment; these are not screen-presentation measurements. The installed app passed signature/identity checks, retained all existing tabs and passed native Space-button checks. See VALIDATION.md for scope and remaining physical-input coverage.
This Apple Silicon development prerelease requires macOS 14 or newer and is locally signed, not notarized. Page loads still depend on the website and WebKit; this release does not claim a measured speed advantage over Arc.
