ScreenBlur 1.0.1

Two ways a mask could vanish in silence, both fixed.

  • A mask no longer follows an app-hide. With canHide left at its default, "Hide Others" (⌘⌥H), an NSApp.hide, or a screen recorder tidying up before filming would wipe the masks while the content stayed on screen.
  • Only ordinary windows punch a hole in a mask. A window's frame does not mean it is opaque: a full-screen floating layer — a recording region selector, an annotation tool, a HUD, a notification banner — covered everything without hiding anything, and the mask was punched through while the content stayed visible underneath. The error now goes the safe way: a mask may cover the Dock or the menu bar, which is ugly and harmless, where the opposite was tidy and dangerous.

Also added, because their absence cost several round trips: scripts/diagnostic_masques.sh logs mask state and large windows while you reproduce a problem, and --apercu now reports the state even when the capture fails — which is exactly when you need it.

Not a bug, worth knowing: a zone attached to an app exists only while that app has a window on screen. App quit, window closed or minimised, and the mask goes — there is nothing left to hide.

ScreenBlur 1.0.0

Blur part of your screen while you share it. Draw a zone over what nobody needs to see — it stays hidden for the whole screen share. A zone can be fixed on screen, attached to one app and follow its window, or you can hide a whole app.

macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Download ScreenBlur-1.0.0.dmg.

First launch

The app is signed but not notarised by Apple, so macOS will refuse to open it ("cannot verify the developer"). Dismiss the message, then System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, Open Anyway. The right-click → Open trick no longer works since Sequoia.

The one thing to know

Sharing your whole screen shows the masks. Sharing a single window does not — the call captures that window alone and no tool of this kind can insert itself into that capture. Share the whole screen, or check first with Aperçu de ce que voient les autres… in the menu.

Permissions

None to get started. Frosted glass and opaque masks need nothing at all; adjustable blur and pixelate reread the screen and ask for Screen Recording. Window tracking and the global shortcuts (⌥⇧N, ⌥⇧B) need no Accessibility permission.

The interface is in French for now.
